The Love of God

Meditate on the love of God.

Dear friends, let us continue to love one another, for love comes from God. Anyone who loves is a child of God and knows God. But anyone who does not love does not know God, for God is love. God showed how much he loved us by sending his one and only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life through him. This is real love—not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins. 1 John 4:7-10

God is love…but all love is not God. Does that make sense? Love comes from God…but it is not God Himself. Although consider that God the Father gave His only Son, Jesus Christ, as a sacrifice of love for the world—which He loved. Whoever believes that Jesus is the Son of God…that He is God…that He died for their sin…will live forever—with the loving God.

For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him. John 3:16-17

Now, that is love. A sacrifice so great that it meant the end of one man’s life for everyone. It is mind boggling. God had a plan, even before He created the heavens and the earth, to sacrifice His Son. Then you may wonder—who loved the most?  The Father who gave up His Son, or the Son who gave up His life? Maybe that doesn’t matter as much as the fact that the winners in this love issue are those who believe in Jesus as their Savior. God loved us so much…even before we existed…that He had a plan for our eternal life with Him. Greater love has no man than He lay down His life for His friends (John 15:13). That is a lot of love. Does it convince you to believe in Jesus as your Savior?

Does God’s love motive us to love one another?

Prayer ~ LORD God, You loved the world so much that You gave Your one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in Jesus will not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16. Thank You—for Your plan for all mankind…and for Your generous, merciful and everlasting love. Help us to love each other—showing Your love—sharing Your love. May it flow in and through us.

Verse of Salvation ~ Help me, O LORD my God! Save me because of your unfailing love. Psalm 109:26

Friday’s Feast at the King’s Table

As usual every Friday is Feast Day—Feasting at the King’s Table. We can’t live on just spiritual food …nor can we live on bread alone. We’ve got to have some meat, veggies and fruit, and occasionally a sweet treat. My Dad would have been 100 years old on January 10, 2021. The following recipe is one that he made often…and kept a cookie bin full and ready for all the grandkids.

Grandpa Reuben’s Molasses Crinkles
2¼ cups flour
2 tsp baking soda
¼ tsp salt
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp ground ginger
½ tsp cloves
1 cup brown sugar
¾ cup oil or shorten4ing
1/3 cup blackstrap unsulphured molasses
1 egg
Granulated sugar

Stir together dry ingredients and set aside.

Cream brown sugar, oil, molasses and egg. Mix in the dry ingredients. Shape into balls. Dip into granulated sugar. Place on an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees, 8-12 minutes. Do not over bake. Makes 4½ to 5 dozen. Store in a Tupperware container. Serve with a hot cup of coffee or a tall glass of cold milk.
