God is Forever

Meditate on God…on knowing Him as immutable. Always and forever unchanging.

Niagara Falls
Changing the foundations of the earth.

Long ago you laid the foundation of the earth and made the heavens with your hands. They will perish, but you remain forever; they will wear out like old clothing. You will change them like a garment and discard them. But you are always the same; you will live forever.
Psalm 102:25-27

Whoever wrote this Psalm—whether it was David, Daniel, Nehemiah or another prophet—was experiencing a low point in his life…and looking to God whom he recognized as eternal.  He is forever…and always the same. Unchanging. Unlike mere humans who are hear today…and gone tomorrow. Several times this is mentioned throughout scripture.

We are here for only a moment, visitors and strangers in the land as our ancestors were before us. Our days on earth are like a passing shadow, gone so soon without a trace. 1 Chronicles 29:15

Our life is fleeting…. I like that word. Fleeting. It describes so well just how our life is right now…going by so quickly that we hardly know one day from the next.

LORD, remind me how brief my time on earth will be. Remind me that my days are numbered--how fleeting my life is. Psalm 39:4

God was here for generations before us…and He will be here for generations after us, unless of course the Rapture takes us all away first! God is forever. That is somehow comforting. He won’t die of COVID, nor will He be blown away by the twenty-five mile an hour winds we are experiencing. H.e is lasting, forever, eternal and through all of history, God hasn’t changed. He is unchanging. The same yesterday, today and forever. Jesus is God…and Hebrews tells us that He is unchanging.

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Hebrews 13:8

We can have peace today and hope for tomorrow because of God’s unchanging character.

Prayer ~ Thank you Jesus that You are the same yesterday, today, and forever. You create not only salvation, but also security, for us. We don’t have to be afraid that You will change Your mind and abandon us, forget about what You have already done for us or about the plans You and our Heavenly Father have for us. For I know the plans I have for you," says the LORD. "They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope."  Jeremiah 29:11

Verse of Salvation ~ The night is almost gone; the day of salvation will soon be here. So remove your dark deeds like dirty clothes, and put on the shining armor of right living. Romans 13:12
