God is Wise

Meditate on God’s Wisdom.

By wisdom the LORD founded the earth; by understanding he created the heavens. By his knowledge the deep fountains of the earth burst forth, and the dew settles beneath the night sky. Proverbs 3:19-20

God is wise—beyond our limited comprehension. It was surprising to me that God and wisdom together are mentioned several times in Job. Check that out for yourself. Job recognizes the true wisdom of God—and points it out to the friends who have come to console, admonish and thus, comfort him.

But true wisdom and power are found in God; counsel and understanding are his. Job 12:13

And this is what he says to all humanity: 'The fear of the Lord is true wisdom; to forsake evil is real understanding.' Job 28:28

Can we consider this wisdom from Job…as well as the wisdom from Solomon and apply it to our lives? We see the creation of God all around us…and hear almost daily of the earthquakes and natural occurrences like volcanoes—so we can still see the power of God in nature. Do people in general recognize God’s power and “fear” or respect Him for it?

After Babylonian King Nebuchadnezzar had a disturbing dream Daniel had a vision that revealed the meaning of that dream. He praised and acknowledged God’s power and wisdom when he interpreted the dream for Nebuchadnezzar. That provided a turning point in Daniel’s captivity and made him a ruler over the wise men of Babylon.

He (Daniel) said, "Praise the name of God forever and ever, for he has all wisdom and power. He controls the course of world events; he removes kings and sets up other kings. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the scholars. He reveals deep and mysterious things and knows what lies hidden in darkness, though he is surrounded by light." Daniel 2:20-22

Are you seeking God…looking for or feeling that you need wisdom?

If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking. But when you ask him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind. Such people should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Their loyalty is divided between God and the world, and they are unstable in everything they do. James 1:5-8

Need wisdom? Seek God. Need God? Seek wisdom. What difference is wisdom making in your relationship with God?

Prayer ~ For all my Christian family and friends…Ever since I first heard of your strong faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for God's people everywhere, I have not stopped thanking God for you. I pray for you constantly, asking God, the glorious Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, to give you spiritual wisdom and insight so that you might grow in your knowledge of God. I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the confident hope he has given to those he called--his holy people who are his rich and glorious inheritance. Ephesians 1:15-18

Verse of Salvation ~ But to those called by God to salvation, both Jews and Gentiles, Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God. 1 Corinthians 1:24
