The Wrath of God

Meditate.

The LORD is a jealous God, filled with vengeance and rage. He takes revenge on all who oppose him and continues to rage against his enemies! The LORD is slow to get angry, but his power is great, and he never lets the guilty go unpunished. He displays his power in the whirlwind and the storm. The billowing clouds are the dust beneath his feet. At his command the oceans dry up, and the rivers disappear. The lush pastures of Bashan and Carmel fade, and the green forests of Lebanon wither. In his presence the mountains quake, and the hills melt away; the earth trembles, and its people are destroyed. Who can stand before his fierce anger? Who can survive his burning fury? His rage blazes forth like fire, and the mountains crumble to dust in his presence. The LORD is good, a strong refuge when trouble comes. He is close to those who trust in him. But he will sweep away his enemies in an overwhelming flood. He will pursue his foes into the darkness of night. Nahum 1:2-8

God is powerful, but He is also jealous. No other gods before Him. You don’t want to be the focus of His vengeance, rage and wrath. The prophet Nahum tells us that He takes revenge on all who oppose Him. Why would anyone want to oppose God? Don’t they realize the power of God—He wins in the end…and all along the way? Satan would like to think that he has power…and loves to get people to oppose God. Satan tried to get Jesus to follow him…to oppose God.

Nations have to suffer under the wrath of God. National judgment is different than judgment of an individual. Those individuals who believe in Jesus…and their sin has been taken to the cross…have been judged already…and they have been found forgiven. He is a strong refuge for those who love Him. But the nations of the world have to face their judge…God.

But the LORD is the only true God. He is the living God and the everlasting King! The whole earth trembles at his anger. The nations cannot stand up to his wrath. Jeremiah 10:10

The wrath of God will prevail. He is in control. Will you find yourself under the wrath of God…or finding a refuge in Him? Your relationship with the Lord is of the highest importance in your life. trust Him…seek Him with all your heart, soul, mind and strength while there is still time.

Prayer ~ All praise to You, God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ. Even before Jesus Christ made the world, You, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in Your eyes. You decided in advance to adopt us into Your own family by bringing us to Yourself through Jesus Christ. This is what You wanted to do, and it gave You great pleasure. So we praise You, God, for the glorious grace You have poured out on us who belong to Your dear Son. From
Ephesians 1:3-6.

Verses of Salvation ~ When we were utterly helpless, Christ came at just the right time and died for us sinners. Now, most people would not be willing to die for an upright person, though someone might perhaps be willing to die for a person who is especially good. But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners. And since we have been made right in God's sight by the blood of Christ, he will certainly save us from God's condemnation. For since our friendship with God was restored by the death of his Son while we were still his enemies, we will certainly be saved through the life of his Son. Romans 5:6-10 (Underlined for emphasis.)

Bible Trivia ~ Last week’s question: What two books in the Christian Bible Old Testament are one book in the Hebrew Bible? Ezra and Nehemiah. Written by Ezra after the Exile and the return of the Jews to Jerusalem and Judah. The Altar, the Temple, the walls of Jerusalem and the whole city were rebuilt by the Israelites with opposition from their enemies. People were not pleased to have the Israelites back in their land, restoring it. Ezra was there to spiritually restore and teach the Israelites. Read and study it for yourself.
