Look Again

Meditate. Take a second or third look at what God is saying to you.

Let all who are spiritually mature agree on these things. If you disagree on some point, I believe God will make it plain to you. But we must hold on to the progress we have already made. Philippians 3:15-16

Agree on these things…what things? We looked at these verses a couple of days ago…but didn’t consider “these things” and to what Paul was referring. What are “these things”? Attitudes is what is expressed in a different translation.

Therefore, all who are mature, let's have this attitude; and if in anything you have a different attitude, God will reveal that to you as well; however, let's keep living by that same [standard] to which we have attained. Philippians 3:15-16 NASB20 (Underlined for emphasis.)

Paul was teaching about circumcision as a Jewish tradition (Philippians 3:2-6), but he continues with stressing the importance of knowing Christ (verses 7-11). That is what is important. Knowing Christ—not necessarily becoming perfect…for only Christ is pure. We can relying on God to help us attain spiritual maturity and to know what is true, right, and to keep us going on towards the goal which is life with Christ. If our attitude is not in keeping with God’s teaching…with His standard…then there is no growth or maturity happening. At least this is the case for me. Attitude it the key in my relationship with the Lord—and there are some days that my attitude is not in alignment with His. I don’t want to do what I know is right. Therein lies the struggle where only God can help me.

Look again.
Put on your glasses if necessary.
What is the Lord saying to you in His word?

So, do you agree with Paul on the value of focusing your life on Christ? On seeking Him first in your life? That is what Paul was writing about—not seeking earthly things (v. 19), but waiting on our Savior, Jesus Christ, who in His mighty power will transform our bodies, glorifying us to be like Him. Once again, the importance of not taking verses out of context is demonstrated in this passage that we would understand just what God was saying through Paul to the church at Philippi and to us. Look again at what God is really saying to you through His written word.

Prayer ~ Lord, reveal to me Your truths and guide me in decisions that I make today. Help me to focus on You so that my attitude will align with Yours and I would be pleasing You in all that I think, say, and do that I might faithfully bring You honor and glory.

Verse of Salvation ~ Help us, O God of our salvation! Help us for the glory of your name. Save us and forgive our sins for the honor of your name. - Psalm 79:9 NLT
