Meditate. How do you see Jesus? A baby in a manger, a figure crucified on a cross, or a dynamic person in Heaven…as John describes in Revelation?
When I turned to see who was speaking to me, I saw
seven gold lampstands. And standing in the middle of the lampstands was someone
like the Son of Man. He was wearing a long robe with a gold sash across his
chest. His head and his hair were white like wool, as white as snow. And his
eyes were like flames of fire. His feet were like polished bronze refined in a
furnace, and his voice thundered like mighty ocean waves. He held seven stars
in his right hand, and a sharp two-edged sword came from his mouth. And his
face was like the sun in all its brilliance. When I saw him, I fell at his feet
as if I were dead. But he laid his right hand on me and said, "Don't be
afraid! I am the First and the Last. I am the living one. I died, but look—I am
alive forever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and the grave." Revelation 1:12-18
Although we have not seen Him, how would you describe Jesus? John saw
Him in a vision in Revelation. He had white hair above a brilliant face,
flaming eyes, a double-edged sword coming out of His mouth, a long robe with
a golden sash, and bronze feet. Magnificently overwhelming. What is that two-edged
sword all about? In his commentary, Matthew Henry suggests it being an actual
two-edged sword or saber that could cut to the right or left. It is the very word of the Lord, which
both wounds and heals as it strikes at sin. As He was about to send them out to
preach to the Jews throughout Israel, Jesus told His disciples what he expected
of them and about the power of His words—like a sword.

Don't
imagine that I came to bring peace to the earth! I came not to bring peace, but
a sword. Matthew 10:34
Jesus is known as the Word of God (see John 1). As the word of God, He has a great authority—physically and spiritually.
For the
word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged
sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes
our innermost thoughts and desires. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God.
Everything is naked and exposed before his eyes, and he is the one to whom we
are accountable. Hebrews 4:12-13
Everything
is…exposed before His eyes, and He is the one to whom we are accountable. Those eyes—bright, glowing, flames of fire. No one will escape from
His sight. He will be judging everyone…
As
a result, the deepest thoughts of many hearts will be revealed. And a sword
will pierce your very soul. Luke 2:35
One of my brothers experienced an
electrical shock that caused him to die…but not permanently. He came back to
life…after going to Heaven and seeing Jesus with pure white hair, in a white
robe. It wasn’t his time yet…Jesus sent him back. What an experience! His life
was changed and the most important thing in his life now is Jesus. What is the
most important thing in your life today? Is it Jesus? What does He look like to
you?
Prayer ~ Jesus, open my eyes to see You as You are. Creator.
Savior. Sustainer. Judge. Ruler. Lord of lords. King of kings. As a popular
song goes: Open the eyes of my heart, Lord/I want to see You/I want to see You high
and lifted up/ shining in the light of Glory. You are an awesome God and I
worship You.
Verse of Salvation ~ Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the
sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Ephesians
