Faith to See Jesus

Begin your devotion time today with Prayer ~ Lord, help me to see You. As I open Your word, give me faith, and show me something new today.

Meditate. Do you have faith in Jesus?

When I turned to see who was speaking to me, I saw seven gold lampstands. And standing in the middle of the lampstands was someone like the Son of Man. He was wearing a long robe with a gold sash across his chest. His head and his hair were white like wool, as white as snow. And his eyes were like flames of fire. His feet were like polished bronze refined in a furnace, and his voice thundered like mighty ocean waves. He held seven stars in his right hand, and a sharp two-edged sword came from his mouth. And his face was like the sun in all its brilliance. When I saw him, I fell at his feet as if I were dead. But he laid his right hand on me and said, "Don't be afraid! I am the First and the Last. I am the living one. I died, but look—I am alive forever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and the grave. Revelation 1:12-18

Faith is believing in what we cannot see. With this description of Jesus Christ in Revelation 1 we can’t “see” Jesus, but our imaginations are stirred to peak around the curtain and visualize the great King of kings. So powerful.

I once was asked if I could…if I would paint a picture—a portrait—of Jesus? Sure—I could try. No one knows just what He looks like—so no matter just how it turned out…it wouldn’t be wrong. The canvas—over six feet high and probably four feet wide—was initially painted black with the names of Jesus scrawled in white for the background.

I Am – Immanuel – Lamb of God – Messiah – Rock – Redeemer – The True Vine

King of kings – Lord of lords – Bright Morning Star – Creator – Savior

Alpha and Omega - Advocate - Bread of Life – The Good Shepherd

The Way, The Truth and The Life – The Word

Wonderful Counselor – Mighty God – Prince of Peace – Victorious One

Is this the face of Jesus?
Jesus' face boldly took shape in shades of tan as His presence evolved with His eyes focusing on you. It wasn’t the courageous, brazen King we visualize from the book of Revelation, nor the gentle baby in the manger, nor even the suffering Jesus hanging on the cross. As the painting developed in a few minutes before a church congregation it was apparent that this Jesus was sad with the realization that mankind--His own people--had rejected Him—choosing to go their own way—not His. You can see it in His eyes.

Imagine the joy of Jesus—and the angels in Heaven—as they rejoice over a person’s salvation! The Bible tells us that in the story of the lost sheep that the shepherd found.

In the same way, there is more joy in heaven over one lost sinner who repents and returns to God than over ninety-nine others who are righteous and haven't strayed away! Luke 15:7

Have you ever had the opportunity to rejoice over a sinner who has repented…even over yourself?  Rejoice and be saved. When Jesus Himself welcomes you into your new home in Heaven one day, you can imagine His eyes—not flaming—but joyfully sparkling as He lovingly greets you.

Yes. That is the Jesus I know. The one who loves me no matter what—who forgives me—and leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake. Do you have faith to see that Jesus?

Verse of Salvation ~ All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is by his great mercy that we have been born again, because God raised Jesus Christ from the dead. Now we live with great expectation, and we have a priceless inheritance—an inheritance that is kept in heaven for you, pure and undefiled, beyond the reach of change and decay. And through your faith, God is protecting you by his power until you receive this salvation, which is ready to be revealed on the last day for all to see. 1 Peter 1:3-5

Memory Verse for the Week ~ Jesus told him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.” John 14:6 NLT

Test yourself or recite this verse to someone. Did you memorize it? Does it mean anything different to you than it did at the beginning of the week?
