Where Are You Putting Your Treasure?

Meditate on what you treasure and where you put that treasure.

ב[Beth] How can a young person stay pure? By obeying your word. I have tried hard to find you—don't let me wander from your commands. I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you. I praise you, O LORD; teach me your decrees. I have recited aloud all the regulations you have given us. I have rejoiced in your laws as much as in riches. I will study your commandments and reflect on your ways. I will delight in your decrees and not forget your word. Psalm 119:9-16

Hidden God’s Word in my heart. How many times have you heard this…or memorized it yourself? What a treasure it is to “hide” something in your heart! To me that means to hold it dear—it is highly valued, loved, prized and cherished. That’s how God’s Word is…more precious than diamonds or rubies. Without God and His word to guide us, we’d be lost in a decrepit world. Lost to eternity…or have to spend it in hell.

This passage begins by asking how a young person can stay pure—and that is just what God wants of us…for us to be holy, because He is holy. How do we do that…whether we are young or old? Simply by obeying God’s word…by treasuring it enough that we do not only keep it preciously tucked away in the very center of our being…but by living it out, focusing on it everyday. When this was written, there was only the Law. Now we have God’s grace giving us the assurance of eternal life with Him. His grace in our lives make us want to keep His commandments…to securely keep those within our hearts and minds…to live by them…and to share them with others. That is love. Not keeping God and His word to ourselves…but sharing it with others. Love God…love others, as ourselves. Love God. That is the center of our relationship with Him. Where do you stand with God today?

Prayer ~ Lord God, I love You with all my heart, soul, mind and strength…and I love my neighbor as myself. I study Your word, hiding it in my heart, rejoicing in Your commandments and directives. Please continue to help me understand and apply Your words.

Verse of Salvation ~ The message of the cross is foolish to those who are headed for destruction! But we who are being saved know it is the very power of God.
