Space Between

Genesis 1:6 Then God said, "Let there be a space between the waters, to separate the waters of the heavens from the waters of the earth."

Memory Scripture of the Week
Genesis 1:1-2 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was formless and empty, and darkness covered the deep waters. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters.
Genesis 1:3-4 Then God said, "Let there be light," and there was light. And God saw that the light was good. Then he separated the light from the darkness.
Genesis 1:5 God called the light "day" and the darkness "night." And evening passed and morning came, marking the first day.
Genesis 1:6 Then God said, "Let there be a space between the waters, to separate the waters of the heavens from the waters of the earth."
Genesis 1:7 And that is what happened. God made this space to separate the waters of the earth from the waters of the heavens.
Genesis 1:8 God called the space "sky." And evening passed and morning came, marking the second day.

SPACE. God said it and it happened. Elbows out…wiggling. Space created from where there had been darkness and light. We all need our “space.” In different cultures different people need different amounts of space between them and their close friends, business associates or strangers. Even within the United States some people, like those raised in the wide open wilderness or open farmlands, need lots of space. I find that some city folks are so used to crowding that they aren’t offended when someone gets up close to them. Up close…but not personal. And let’s mind our manners—no spitting. God is a gentleman. The Father, Son and Holy Spirit at Creation probably didn’t have a problem with their individual space. Remember the Spirit was hovering over the surface of the waters. He didn’t get in the way of the Father and the Son as they created. They are all respectful of each other. Can we be the same? Respectful of each other’s space?

Prayer ~ Lord Jesus, You are the Light of the World (John 8:12). Shine Your light on me—illuminating Your truth...giving hope to me and to everyone. May Your light through me. May the space that You created never be void in my life…and may I feel Your presence—Your light shining in the darkness.
