Let There Be Light

Then God said, "Let there be light," and there was light. And God saw that the light was good. Then he separated the light from the darkness. Genesis 1:3-4

Memory Scripture of the Week
Genesis 1:1-2 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was formless and empty, and darkness covered the deep waters. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters.
Genesis 1:3-4 Then God said, "Let there be light," and there was light. And God saw that the light was good. Then he separated the light from the darkness.
Genesis 1:5 God called the light "day" and the darkness "night." And evening passed and morning came, marking the first day.
Genesis 1:6 Then God said, "Let there be a space between the waters, to separate the waters of the heavens from the waters of the earth."
Genesis 1:7 And that is what happened. God made this space to separate the waters of the earth from the waters of the heavens.
Genesis 1:8 God called the space "sky." And evening passed and morning came, marking the second day.

Let there be Light. There are so many references in the Bible to light. Here are a few to remind us… Jesus is the light. The light of the world.
You light a lamp for me. The LORD, my God, lights up my darkness. Psalm 18:28

Light shines in the darkness for the godly. They are generous, compassionate, and righteous. Psalm 112:4

The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it. John 1:5

For God, who said, "Let there be light in the darkness," has made this light shine in our hearts so we could know the glory of God that is seen in the face of Jesus Christ.                      2 Corinthians 4:6

But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God's very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light. 1 Peter 2:9

This is the message we heard from Jesus and now declare to you: God is light, and there is no darkness in him at all. 1 John 1:5

There is no darkness in God. He is light. The light of the world. The light shining in the darkness…at the Beginning of Creation. And just as God declared...the light was good.

Prayer ~ Lord God, darkness wants to crowd in on these dreary winter days. Illumine my heart and mind with Your light…the true light of the world. Show me Your truths and dispel any dark thoughts from my mind. You are light…in You there is no darkness.
