We Are Like Fragile Jars of Clay

Prayer – Lord, shine Your light in and through us so that others may see Your power, love, and hope. We are pressed on every side by troubles, but we are not crushed. We are perplexed, but not driven to despair. We are hunted down, but never abandoned by God. We get knocked down, but we are not destroyed. Through suffering—that that we experience and that which we see in others around us suffering from cancer, disease, just old age, and even Covid—our bodies continue to share in the death of Jesus so that the life of Jesus will be seen us. Shine on.

A broken pottery vessel as seen in Israel.
For God, who said, "Let there be light in the darkness," has made this light shine in our hearts so we could know the glory of God that is seen in the face of Jesus Christ. We now have this light shining in our hearts, but we ourselves are like fragile clay jars containing this great treasure. This makes it clear that our great power is from God, not from ourselves. We are pressed on every side by troubles, but we are not crushed. We are perplexed, but not driven to despair. We are hunted down, but never abandoned by God. We get knocked down, but we are not destroyed. Through suffering, our bodies continue to share in the death of Jesus so that the life of Jesus may also be seen in our bodies. 2 Corinthians 4:6-10

Meditate. Focus on the fact that God will never abandon us.

This promise from God that He will never abandon us is second only to “God is love.” I don’t ever want to be left behind, abandoned, or forgotten. Sure, we will all die someday and after a generation or so we will be forgotten. How many of you knew any of your great-grandparents…or even facts about them? If you are into genealogy, you may know much further back, but the general public doesn’t usually even care about their ancestors. Did those early family members let their light shine? Is it because of your ancestors’ prayers that you are even now a Christian? We are just like fragile pottery jars with a special treasure inside of us. That treasure is Jesus Christ our risen Lord and Savior. Take care that you let your light shine out from your heart and not be led astray to believe and follow a corrupt leader or religion. Don’t let your heart be broken, like broken pottery, if you don’t stay true to the Lord and glorify Him.

Verse of Salvation ~ For the kind of sorrow God wants us to experience leads us away from sin and results in salvation. There's no regret for that kind of sorrow. But worldly sorrow, which lacks repentance, results in spiritual death. 2 Corinthians 7:10

Memory Verse of the Week ~ So whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of

God. 1 Corinthians 10:31 NLT

Friday’s Feast at the King’s Table

What’s on your plate today? When we recently visited Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha, Nebraska, we got to see one of the gorillas eating celery for his lunch. He really seemed to be enjoying it. Do you like celery? Raw or cooked? Do you use it to dip into salsa…or a cheese ball? How about a little peanut butter on it—and add a few raisins? Celery is also a good addition in a stir-fry. So, what is on your plate today?
