Who Is The King of Glory?

Prayer – Lord, You are the King of Glory…my Lord and Savior. I worship You.

Open up, ancient gates!
Gates at the Mount of the Beatitudes.
Israel
The earth is the LORD's, and everything in it. The world and all its people belong to him. For he laid the earth's foundation on the seas and built it on the ocean depths. Who may climb the mountain of the LORD? Who may stand in his holy place? Only those whose hands and hearts are pure, who do not worship idols and never tell lies. They will receive the LORD's blessing and have a right relationship with God their savior. Such people may seek you and worship in your presence, O God of Jacob. Open up, ancient gates! Open up, ancient doors, and let the King of glory enter. Who is the King of glory? The LORD, strong and mighty; the LORD, invincible in battle. Open up, ancient gates! Open up, ancient doors, and let the King of glory enter. Who is the King of glory? The LORD of Heaven's Armies—he is the King of glory. Psalm 24:1-10

Meditate. Consider the strength and power of the Lord.

The Lord is the creator—and everything belongs to Him. Creator. Imagine nothing…only a void. Then—poof—the earth, seas, stars, plants, animals and people. Created. That takes power! Now who can stand before this powerful Lord God? David is telling us that people whose hands and hearts are pure, who do not worship idols and never tell lies. They will receive the LORD's blessing and have a right relationship with God their savior. We know that our Heavenly Father can only have pure people standing before Him…and this passage supports that. How do we become pure? Jesus began His ministry calling people to “repent” and turn from their sinful ways. Everyone sins—since Adam. It is part of human nature—but God wants us to repent. With Adam and Eve’s sin, an animal had to be sacrificed, bloodshed, for the forgiveness of their sin—their disobedience towards God. Likewise, for all mankind, there had to be a sacrifice—but continual animal sacrifice was not the answer. Jesus’ sacrifice—dying on the cross—removes our sin forever so that we can be pure and stand before God on His throne in His holy place—heaven. Purity. It can only be achieved through repentance and belief. Purity. Then we will receive the LORD's blessing and have a right relationship with God our savior. Such people may seek you and worship in your presence, O God of Jacob. He is The King of Glory.

Verse of Salvation ~ So I am willing to endure anything if it will bring salvation and eternal glory in Christ Jesus to those God has chosen. 2 Timothy 2:10

Memory Verse of the Week ~ But now, O Jacob, listen to the LORD who created you. O Israel, the one who formed you says, "Do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you. I have called you by name; you are mine.” Isaiah 43:1

Who Is Your Shepherd?

Prayer – O Lord, You are my shepherd…protecting the guiding me, providing everything I need including healthy food and pure safe water, restoring my soul so that I can walk honestly as a person of integrity. Even when times are tough, You are always with me. You even help me face my enemies—like anxiety and fear—and abundantly bless me. You are so good to me…and have even offered a place in Your home for eternity. I accept Your offer—and I so look forward to living with You…forever. Thank you.

Sheep grazing in Israel
The Lord is their shepherd.
Is the Lord your shepherd?
The LORD is my shepherd; I have all that I need. He lets me rest in green meadows; he leads me beside peaceful streams. He renews my strength. He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to his name. Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me. Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me. You prepare a feast for me in the presence of my enemies. You honor me by anointing my head with oil. My cup overflows with blessings. Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me all the days of my life, and I will live in the house of the LORD forever.  Psalm 23:1-6

Meditate. Consider God’s guidance and protection in scripture.

.

This is the classic Psalm. Most people memorize it as a child…and personally, I find it such a blessing—it covers everything. Food, shelter, protection, blessings, and one of the best promises ever—unfailing love. Everyone needs and wants love. To love and be loved…the most basic of human needs. A life without love results in anger, bitterness, and a very lonely and possibly, an unhealthy existence. But God promises here to pursue me. Can you see God running after me…or you? He won’t abandon either of us, since He is continually pursuing us.

At funerals and memorial services this is the classic scripture used to comfort those left behind. It provides an assurance that not only the deceased, but we all can dwell in the House of the Lord forever. God doesn’t tell the reader that they have to believe in Jesus as their Savior to get into that heavenly home with Him, but if someone does believe in Jesus, then they can certainly claim that the Lord is their shepherd—providing, protecting, and continually blessing them. You may not think of yourself as a sheep…but David was a shepherd and he is visually providing us with this picture of a shepherd that is the ultimate caretaker. Shepherds risk their lives to protect their sheep. Although I grew up on a farm, we never had any sheep. Still, I know the dedication it takes to care for farm animals…and children. I’m glad that Jesus is my shepherd. Is the Lord your shepherd?

Verses of Salvation ~ Jesus responded, "Salvation has come to this home today, for this man has shown himself to be a true son of Abraham. For the Son of Man came to seek and save those who are lost." Luke 19:9-10

Memory Verse of the Week ~ But now, O Jacob, listen to the LORD who created you. O Israel, the one who formed you says, "Do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you. I have called you by name; you are mine.” Isaiah 43:1

Have You Felt Abandoned?

Prayer – Lord, You have promised to never abandon me…and I hold You to that promise. You felt abandoned while You hung on the cross—but I hope to never have to feel that because on that cross You paid the price for my sin…and all the people everywhere throughout history. What an awesome gift. Freedom from sin—guilt removed. My heart rejoices and I know that I will be filled with joy…forever. Thank you…thank you…thank you! I continually seek You and I praise You today…and always. You are so worthy of praise. Please continue to reveal Yourself to me…showing me something in Psalm 22 that I have never seen before. Please bless those who struggle with life…and especially the families and friends of those who will be coming Home to You soon. Give them strength and peace. They trust You.

Jesus on the Cross
Holy Family Shrine - Nebraska
My God...why have you abandoned me?

My God, my God, why have you abandoned me? Why are you so far away when I groan for help? Every day I call to you, my God, but you do not answer. Every night you hear my voice, but I find no relief. Yet you are holy, enthroned on the praises of Israel. Our ancestors trusted in you, and you rescued them. They cried out to you and were saved. They trusted in you and were never disgraced. But I am a worm and not a man. I am scorned and despised by all! Everyone who sees me mocks me. They sneer and shake their heads, saying, "Is this the one who relies on the LORD? Then let the LORD save him! If the LORD loves him so much, let the LORD rescue him!" ... The poor will eat and be satisfied. All who seek the LORD will praise him. Their hearts will rejoice with everlasting joy. The whole earth will acknowledge the LORD and return to him. All the families of the nations will bow down before him. For royal power belongs to the LORD. He rules all the nations. Let the rich of the earth feast and worship. Bow before him, all who are mortal, all whose lives will end as dust. Our children will also serve him. Future generations will hear about the wonders of the Lord. His righteous acts will be told to those not yet born. They will hear about everything he has done. Psalm 22:1-8, 26-31 (Read all of Psalm 22.)

Meditate. Consider what Jesus did for you on that cross.

Have you ever felt abandoned…abandoned by God? Abandoned by anyone? That is how Jesus felt while He hung on the cross—carrying the weight of the whole world’s sin…all alone. No one was there to rescue Him. Alone and rejected.

This Psalm is thought to be depicting Jesus on the cross since He quoted the first couple of verses as He actually hung on the cross. It must have been excruciatingly painful—physically and spiritually. Doctors have studied and reported the agonizing effects of crucifixion on the body. Additionally, Jesus felt rejected by His own Father…our Heavenly Father. What a plan! Here’s my Son—let Him be the sacrifice so that mankind can be holy and pure. It was a glorious plan…and Jesus fulfilled it. As recorded in John 19:30, His last words were…It is finished. Not only was His work on earth complete…His job was done—but all mankind was saved for eternity…if they believed and lived an obedient life. It is exciting that David recognized and wrote about future generations hearing about the Lord. Babes in arms to teens leaving for college—that is a good place to begin to hear of the wonders—the healings, the miracles, and the obedient life of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He will never abandon us—He promised. He always and obediently keeps His promises. If you don’t know Jesus…seek Him. If you don’t know Jesus, have you felt abandoned?

Verses of Salvation ~ Hear me as I pray, O LORD. Be merciful and answer me! My heart has heard you say, "Come and talk with me." And my heart responds, "LORD, I am coming." Do not turn your back on me. Do not reject your servant in anger. You have always been my helper. Don't leave me now; don't abandon me, O God of my salvation! Psalm 27:7-9

Memory Verse of the Week ~ But now, O Jacob, listen to the LORD who created you. O Israel, the one who formed you says, "Do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you. I have called you by name; you are mine.” Isaiah 43:1

With Music and Singing We Celebrate the Lord’s Mighty Acts

Prayer – Lord, You are awesome. You blessed David…and You bless us with Your mighty strength, power, mercy, and unfailing love. Please show me something new in this scripture today that I can apply to my life and share with others—bringing us all closer to You.

How the king rejoices in your strength, O LORD! He shouts with joy because you give him victory. For you have given him his heart's desire; you have withheld nothing he requested. You welcomed him back with success and prosperity. You placed a crown of finest gold on his head. He asked you to preserve his life, and you granted his request. The days of his life stretch on forever. Your victory brings him great honor, and you have clothed him with splendor and majesty. You have endowed him with eternal blessings and given him the joy of your presence. For the king trusts in the LORD. The unfailing love of the Most High will keep him from stumbling. You will capture all your enemies. Your strong right hand will seize all who hate you. You will throw them in a flaming furnace when you appear. The LORD will consume them in his anger; fire will devour them. You will wipe their children from the face of the earth; they will never have descendants. Although they plot against you, their evil schemes will never succeed. For they will turn and run when they see your arrows aimed at them. Rise up, O LORD, in all your power. With music and singing we celebrate your mighty acts. Psalm 21:1-13

Meditate. Consider God’s power.

David is the king praising the Lord for all He has done for him. God was certainly good to King David giving him victory over his enemies…and giving him his heart’s desire. We are not kings or priests…at least not yet…but God will still give us our heart’s desires. Trust Him. He has promised…and in addition, He will keep you from stumbling.

Let the whole world bless our God and loudly sing his praises. Our lives are in his hands, and he keeps our feet from stumbling. Psalm 66:8-9

Hiking in Arizona.
No stumbling along this path--God kept us safe.
Sing praises to the Lord.
Safe and secure in His Love.

Stumbling is not a good thing, since it can result in a fall and falls often result in broken bones. I’ll gladly claim God’s promise that He keeps our feet from stumbling! That is a great promise for those of us who in the mirror or see a photo of ourselves and see an older person there. “Who is that old lady?” I’ve asked myself that question several times. Hmmm. I can’t be getting that old, but I have passed the 70 mark…but I’m not stopping yet, so one day I may see the big 80 roll into my life, if the Lord tarries longer.

There are Bible teachers out there who have calculated and back-calculated the end times…but truly only God the Father knows His plan and His timing. So, like David, we just need to trust Him. Jesus told us to “be ready” for we don’t know when He will return. Is part of that “being ready” bringing others to Christ—for them to know Him as their Savior? Yes, I think that is true since when Jesus left His disciples for the last time He commissioned them to go into all the world making disciples of others. We are to do the same. On this Lord’s Sabbath day, we celebrate Him.

Rise up, O LORD, in all your power. With music and singing we celebrate your mighty acts.

Verses of Salvation ~ Even though the fig trees have no blossoms, and there are no grapes on the vines; even though the olive crop fails, and the fields lie empty and barren; even though the flocks die in the fields, and the cattle barns are empty, yet I will rejoice in the LORD! I will be joyful in the God of my salvation! The Sovereign LORD is my strength! He makes me as surefooted as a deer, able to tread upon the heights.  Habakkuk 3:17-19

Do You Feel That You Need the Lord’s Help?

Without light there is no time.
Let the light of Jesus give you
time and direction.

May He give you your heart's desire
and make your plans succeed.
Prayer – Lord, I don’t really ask for much…and am pretty content with the things I have in life, but please grant my heart's desires and make all my plans succeed. Most of all in life…I just want health and the ability to make good decisions for me and my family and to please You. I want to be organized, use my time wisely, and encourage others to seek You, to put You first in their lives. Open my eyes to possibilities, to Your direction, and to share Your hope with others. Time is short—we need to make the most of it!

In times of trouble, may the LORD answer your cry. May the name of the God of Jacob keep you safe from all harm. May he send you help from his sanctuary and strengthen you from Jerusalem. May he remember all your gifts and look favorably on your burnt offerings. May he grant your heart's desires and make all your plans succeed. May we shout for joy when we hear of your victory and raise a victory banner in the name of our God. May the LORD answer all your prayers. Now I know that the LORD rescues his anointed king. He will answer him from his holy heaven and rescue him by his great power. Some nations boast of their chariots and horses, but we boast in the name of the LORD our God. Those nations will fall down and collapse, but we will rise up and stand firm. Give victory to our king, O LORD! Answer our cry for help. Psalm 20:1-9

Meditate. Do you feel that you need God’s help?

Sometimes we just are stubborn and don’t want anyone’s assistance. David writes that he wants God to answer our cry for help. He is offering such encouragement and hope. My life is simple…yet cluttered. My only cry for help—besides less anxiety during these Covid focused times—is to draw others to Christ. He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. I definitely need God’s help in fulfilling my responsibilities of Jesus’ great commission.

Jesus came and told his disciples, "I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Matthew 28:18-20

How do I do this…or at least what is my part…what can I do to “go and make disciples…teaching them to obey all the commands that Jesus gave us” as we have been told to do? What are you doing? Do you have a plan…a goal? Do you feel that you need God’s help?

Verses of Salvation ~ As for us, we can't help but thank God for you, dear brothers and sisters loved by the Lord. We are always thankful that God chose you to be among the first to experience salvation--a salvation that came through the Spirit who makes you holy and through your belief in the truth. He called you to salvation when we told you the Good News; now you can share in the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Thessalonians 2:13-14

Memory Verse of the Week ~ For the LORD watches over the path of the godly, but the path of the wicked leads to destruction. Psalm 1:6

May My Words Please the Lord

Prayer – Lord, when I look at Your creation…I am amazed and awed. You created people and animals with such intricate and delicate parts and functions…and such grandiose trees, like the enormous redwoods…and then there are the magnificent stars and heavens which proclaim Your glory. How can anyone not believe in Your…and Your creation? You’ve looked out for mankind since You created Adam and Eve…and yet over and over people have rejected You. Not me. I believe in You. You are my Lord and Savior. Show me more of Yourself through this scripture today…and continue to guide me on a path that draws me closer to You. May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing to you, O LORD, my rock and my redeemer.

The heavens proclaim the glory of God. The skies display his craftsmanship. Day after day they continue to speak; night after night they make him known. They speak without a sound or word; their voice is never heard. Yet their message has gone throughout the earth, and their words to all the world. God has made a home in the heavens for the sun. It bursts forth like a radiant bridegroom after his wedding. It rejoices like a great athlete eager to run the race. The sun rises at one end of the heavens and follows its course to the other end. Nothing can hide from its heat. The instructions of the LORD are perfect, reviving the soul. The decrees of the LORD are trustworthy, making wise the simple. The commandments of the LORD are right, bringing joy to the heart. The commands of the LORD are clear, giving insight for living. Reverence for the LORD is pure, lasting forever. The laws of the LORD are true; each one is fair. They are more desirable than gold, even the finest gold. They are sweeter than honey, even honey dripping from the comb. They are a warning to your servant, a great reward for those who obey them. How can I know all the sins lurking in my heart? Cleanse me from these hidden faults. Keep your servant from deliberate sins! Don't let them control me. Then I will be free of guilt and innocent of great sin. May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing to you, O LORD, my rock and my redeemer. Psalm 19:1-14

Meditate. Consider God’s glory.

Earlier this summer I went to Cle Elem, Washington and stayed at a in a lovely yurt at a friend’s cabin. In the middle of the night, I got up and headed for the necessary room. But…I stopped and looked up. The sky was ablaze with stars. It was awesome! When there is total darkness—no light pollution from cities—the stars seem to shine brighter. If you ever have an opportunity to view stars without light pollution—take it. You won’t be sorry as you gaze that those amazing twinkling stary hosts. God created those stars…in the beginning. The heavens definitely declare God’s glory. Evening and daytime—glory. When the sun is shining bright…there is no room for darkness. The glory of God fills the earth…and the sun warms us—even though it may seem to be too much sometimes during these hot summer days.

The Columbia River
Blue Bridge and Reflections
Kennewick, Washington

My kayaking adventure have continued all week—and yesterday, Day 6, brought me great sunshine as I paddled east on the River. Bright morning light. No room for darkness. Just clear skies and smooth reflective water. That shiny water reflects the sky, trees, and even the image of my kayak, just like we reflect the image of Jesus…if the Holy Spirit is within us. Do you know that if Jesus is your personal savior, then the Holy Spirit lives within you? Jesus told His disciples that He had to go back to the Father, so that the Holy Spirit—the Comforter, Advocate, Encourager, Teacher—could come to live within us.

But in fact, it is best for you that I go away, because if I don't, the Advocate won't come. If I do go away, then I will send him to you. And when he comes, he will convict the world of its sin, and of God's righteousness, and of the coming judgment. John 16:7-8

The Holy Spirit isn’t focused on the way Jesus and God the Father are, but He is indeed part of the Triune God. David asks… How can I know all the sins lurking in my heart? It is the Holy spirit that convicts each person of their sin…and we all sin and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23). John explains a intriguing relationship between darkness and sin and between light and forgiveness. It is our responsibility to confess our sins to God. He won’t take them away unless we acknowledge that we are sinners and have sinned.

This is the message we heard from Jesus and now declare to you: God is light, and there is no darkness in him at all. So we are lying if we say we have fellowship with God but go on living in spiritual darkness; we are not practicing the truth. But if we are living in the light, as God is in the light, then we have fellowship with each other, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, cleanses us from all sin. If we claim we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and not living in the truth. But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness. If we claim we have not sinned, we are calling God a liar and showing that his word has no place in our hearts. 1 John 1:5-10

May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing to you, O LORD, my rock and my redeemer.

Verses of Salvation ~ God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can't take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. For we are God's masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. Ephesians 2:8-10

Memory Verse of the Week ~ For the LORD watches over the path of the godly, but the path of the wicked leads to destruction. Psalm 1:6

Friday’s Feast at the King’s Table

Have you read Revelation recently…or ever? I was taught years ago that when we go to heaven there will be a big feast with Jesus. He may even be serving us the heavenly food. Yet, look closely at Revelation and other books in the New Testament. It appears that the wedding feast to which we are all looking forward doesn’t happen until after the Millennium. We’ve a long time to wait for that feast!

And from the throne came a voice that said, "Praise our God, all his servants, all who fear him, from the least to the greatest." Then I heard again what sounded like the shout of a vast crowd or the roar of mighty ocean waves or the crash of loud thunder: "Praise the LORD! For the Lord our God, the Almighty, reigns. Let us be glad and rejoice, and let us give honor to him. For the time has come for the wedding feast of the Lamb, and his bride has prepared herself. She has been given the finest of pure white linen to wear." For the fine linen represents the good deeds of God's holy people. And the angel said to me, "Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding feast of the Lamb." And he added, "These are true words that come from God." Revelation 19:5-9

A little confusion here—the bride is the church…those who believe in Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior and have been obedient to Him. Just being invited to the wedding feast is another story. Those people are not necessarily part of the body of Christ…just those who have at some time in their life believed in Jesus as the Son of God, but not faithfully lived an obedient life. Their names are still in the Book of Life, not having been blotted out. Revelation, and its relationship with other end time passages, can be confusing. I’ve been watching Brenda Weltner on YouTube and she has brought up some very interesting scripture evaluations in her END TIME BIBLE STUDY. The teachings that you may have encountered in the past, may not be true. We all need to dig deep into God’s Word, praying to Him for wisdom, understanding, and discernment so that we can understand these end times that we are facing and the eternity that is ahead us all. What is on that “Banquet” table may seem important to us now…but we need to be sure we are seated at the Bride’s table and not just a guest. Eat heartily of God’s Word today.

Who Is Worthy of Praise

Prayer – Lord, thank you that You give me strength day by day to do the things I need to do and face the “enemies” in my life, even if it is just anxiety. Don’t worry. That is what You told us. Cast all our cares upon You. Your are worthy…of our praise and adoration. Thank you for rescuing us, Lord. I love You.

I love you, LORD; you are my strength. The LORD is my rock, my fortress, and my savior; my God is my rock, in whom I find protection. He is my shield, the power that saves me, and my place of safety. I called on the LORD, who is worthy of praise, and he saved me from my enemies. ... God's way is perfect. All the LORD's promises prove true. He is a shield for all who look to him for protection. For who is God except the LORD? Who but our God is a solid rock? God arms me with strength, and he makes my way perfect. He makes me as surefooted as a deer, enabling me to stand on mountain heights. He trains my hands for battle; he strengthens my arm to draw a bronze bow. You have given me your shield of victory. Your right hand supports me; your help has made me great. You have made stop until they were conquered. I struck them down so they could not get up; they fell beneath my feet. You have armed me with strength for the battle; you have subdued my enemies under my feet. ...The LORD lives! Praise to my Rock! May the God of my salvation be exalted! He is the God who pays back those who harm me; he subdues the nations under me and rescues me from my enemies. You hold me safe beyond the reach of my enemies; you save me from violent opponents. For this, O LORD, I will praise you among the nations; I will sing praises to your name. Psalm 18:1-3, 30-39, 46-49 (Read all of Psalm 18.)

Meditate. Consider God’s protection and promises.

David sang this song to the Lord on the day that the Lord delivered him from his enemies and the hand of Saul, who was wanting to destroy him. It was written after Saul died. You can read about that story in along with the history of David’s reign as king in 2 Samuel.

This is a long Psalm with 50 verses total, making it the fourth longest in the book of Psalms. Parts of it are repeated in 2 Samuel 22. David was praising the Lord for rescuing him from his enemies, especially king Saul. In this Psalm David focuses on loving God and God loving him. Security, protection, and strength. Those are promises that God has given David and us. God did rescue David from his enemies…and He will same for us.

But who are your enemies? A war that is being fought now on the other side of the world pits Russia against the Ukraine, with whom we side. Then there is the China and Taiwan conflict that has not come to actual fighting yet, but the United States has made it clear that we are supporting Taiwan in their efforts to stay independent. That makes China and Russia our enemies—but not the same way that David and Saul were enemies. Enemies that we can identify closer to home involve the drug wars and racial unrest that divides our country within itself. Each of us have our own enemies whether it is a driver with road rage on the highway, a conflict with a neighbor, or even our own attitudes and feelings that can overpower and overwhelm us deep within our very soul. How can we deal with our enemies? David went to God in prayer pleading for His help. We can do the same. Jesus instructed His disciples, followers, and all the people of the cities where His disciples had ministered.

Then Jesus said, "Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light." Matthew 11:28-30

Praise - Peace - Revive My Soul

Rest for your souls…rest from your enemies. Praise be to God. The words near the end of this Psalm (v.46) have been made into a praise chorus that many churches sing regularly in the KJV…The LORD liveth; and blessed be my rock; and let the God of my salvation be exalted. Psalm 18:46 KJV. Exalt—Praise—Acclaim—Revere. Sing praises to the King of kings, Lord of lords. Jesus our Savior. I will sing praises to Your Name, Lord Jesus. Blessed be my Rock.

Verse of Salvation ~ The LORD liveth; and blessed be my rock; and let the God of my salvation be exalted. Psalm 18:46 KJV

Memory Verse of the Week ~ For the LORD watches over the path of the godly, but the path of the wicked leads to destruction. Psalm 1:6
