Punishment for Insulting the Holy Spirit?

Dear friends, if we deliberately continue sinning after we have received knowledge of the truth, there is no longer any sacrifice that will cover these sins. There is only the terrible expectation of God's judgment and the raging fire that will consume His enemies. For anyone who refused to obey the law of Moses was put to death without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. Just think how much worse the punishment will be for those who have trampled on the Son of God, and have treated the blood of the covenant, which made us holy, as if it were common and unholy, and have insulted and disdained the Holy Spirit who brings God's mercy to us. Hebrews 10:26-29 NLT

How could someone keep on sinning deliberately after they accept Jesus as their Savior—knowing that Jesus’ blood not just shed, but sacrificed for them? Selfish desires? Ignorance? Or just plain disobedience? We can’t judge other’s motives. Are we perfect ourselves? No—not perfect, but forgiven. This author of Hebrews tells us that if  we are so careless as to disregard what Jesus, The Son of God, has done for us and have   disrespected the Holy Spirit, we face the same punishment—or worse—that those who refused to obey the Ten Commandments during Moses time. Death. Not just dying here on earth—but eternally. That is pretty serious. Think about your thoughts, words and actions. Be an encourager of other Christians—that you would help save them from death—and yourself, too.

Prayer ~ Holy Spirit, help to think through what we say and do that everything about our lives would bring glory to God.
