For it is impossible to bring back to
repentance those who were once enlightened—those who have experienced the good
things of heaven and shared in the Holy Spirit, who have tasted the
goodness of the word of God and the power of the age to come—and who then turn away from God. It is impossible
to bring such people back to repentance; by rejecting the Son of God, they
themselves are nailing Him to the cross once again and holding Him up to public
shame. Hebrews 6:4-6 NLT
Don’t nail my Lord to the cross again!
Encourage all your Christian friends that they would stay strong in the Lord—no
matter what trials they may seem to be going through. Some people blame God
when things don’t go well for them—they certainly don’t want to “repent”
although that is exactly what Jesus preached near the beginning of His
ministry, after He had settled in Capernaum. From that time Jesus began to preach and say, "Repent, for the
kingdom of heaven is at hand." Matthew 4:17. Repent. Repentance. That
is regretting and feeling sorry for past sin; turning away from that wrong. The
author of Hebrews is telling us that it is impossible for those people who have
been close to God…to the Holy Spirit…and turned away from God, rejected Jesus Christ
to repent. Repentance is humbling—but it is also necessary for us to set things
right with God… so that we can stand before Him in a glorious and holy state.
We must be pure and holy if we are to go before God. Where do you stand with
God? Don’t turn your back on Him. Repentance will be impossible.
Prayer
~ Holy Spirit—keep me in check that I would never turn my back on God—that I
would be pure and holy—ready to stand before God at any time—since we never
know just when our time on earth will be over. May I be an encouragement to
other Christians—especially during these holy days of the Christmas season. Don’t
get discouraged and turn against God. He loves us too much to be rejected by us—but
we can’t reject Jesus and expect to live forever with Him. Thank you for
revealing this truth to me.
