Protection or Persecution?

How blessed is he who considers the helpless; The LORD will deliver him in a day of trouble. The LORD will protect him and keep him alive, and he shall be called blessed upon the earth; and do not give him over to the desire of his enemies. Psalm 41:1-2

Shots rang out. The patio door shattered. CALL 911.

By the time the police arrived five bodies were strewn around the house. Pools of blood. Life gone. It was too late.

Were there cries of NO—Don’t do this? It was too late. Those words were too late. They should have been spoken 22 years earlier in a plea for respect. No. Don’t. Don’t touch my body—don’t take my innocence. All she wanted was love and protection. What more does anyone really desire? He had desire—lustful, selfish, physical desire to please himself. Persecution by a lecherous young man. That is what my sister faced. She thought that she was getting protection from a stalker in one of her college courses—but what she got was a short lifetime of persecution, lies and mistrust. It started out harmless and protective. Let me help you. I am strong and courageous, friendly, and courteous—hidden beneath a lecherous smile. Beware. People are not always as they portray themselves to be. Look deeper. Do they have the love of the Lord? Who is his enemy? Is it the Lord that he is fighting or evil? Don’t be misled. Don’t allow yourself to be abused. Don’t be unequally yoked.

Jesus said…Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and YOU WILL FIND REST FOR YOUR SOULS. Matthew 11:29. The rest for your souls came. Shirley, Bob, Vicki and Anne’s souls are resting. Waiting for Christ’s return. Waiting for the promises of God to be fulfilled.

Prayer ~ Holy Spirit, please give me grace to continue to forgive. Open the eyes and hearts of those facing abuse that they could avoid relationships that end in abuse…and death. Give them rest for their souls and hope for today and tomorrow.

Remembering Shirley, Bob, Vicki and Anne—God’s obedient children, whose lives were taken from them—from all of us. Time has gone by just too fast—we will see you again one day—at a Banquet with our King.
