Listen Carefully

So we must listen very carefully to the truth we have heard, or we may drift away from it. For the message God delivered through angels has always stood firm, and every violation of the law and every act of disobedience was punished. So what makes us think we can escape if we ignore this great salvation that was first announced by the Lord Jesus Himself and then delivered to us by those who heard Him speak? And God confirmed the message by giving signs and wonders and various miracles and gifts of the Holy Spirit whenever He chose. Hebrews 2:1-4 NLT

Listen carefully. Do you hear the truth? If we don’t hear the truth, we may hear some other voice calling us away from our basic values. Jesus said to the people who believed in Him, "You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings." John 8:31-32 NLT. Remain faithful to Jesus’ teachings. He taught so many things...what is the most important? The Pharisee spoke to Jesus about this very issue. One of them, an expert in religious law, tried to trap Him with this question: "Teacher, which is the most important commandment in the law of Moses?" Jesus replied, "'You must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'" Matthew 22:35-39 NLT. Love your neighbor as yourself. Of course, you have to love yourself first…to love others. The Holy Spirit gives us that power, to love ourselves as Jesus loves us.

Jesus told Thomas—and the other disciples—"I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me." John 14:6 NLT. Jesus IS the truth. He is our Salvation! We can’t escape this truth—nor should we want to.

Prayer ~ Holy Spirit, continue to confirm that Jesus is our salvation—that He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Continue to work miracles in our lives.

Friday’s Feast at the King’s Table

I’ve been on a pretty restrictive diet for the last month—and have lost about twenty pounds. Its good for me since I’ve been trying to lose weight for the last ten years by increasing my exercise level and decreasing my portion sized or intake—with only a few pounds down ad then back up—regularly. Too many snacks I guess—but not with this diet. So when this phase of the diet ends next week I get to add MORE food! Hurrah! There are so many foods I’m looking forward to eating, particularly almonds, avocados and cheese! Some fat is good for you. Here’s one I’m thinking will be tasty.

Avocado Salad for Two

1 Avocado, peeled and sliced

10 Almonds, grated

2 Tbsp Feta cheese

Combine in a bowl, divide into two portions and enjoy.
