David was a
man after God’s own heart—and God spoke through him on many occasions
throughout his life—many of which are recorded in the Psalms. David didn’t lead
an exactly exemplary life—but we have all sinned and fallen short of the glory
of God.
But now apart
from the Law the righteousness of God has been manifested, being witnessed by
the Law and the Prophets, even the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus
Christ for all those who believe; for there is no distinction; for all have
sinned and fall short of the glory of God, being justified as a gift by His
grace through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus….Romans 3:21-24.
The passage
from 2 Samuel may have been recorded as the last words of David, but there are
later words—even chapters that deal with David’s life. He sinned, but he
repented and tried to live an obedient life to please God. He praised God for
working in his life…and he encouraged others to praise God.
I will extol
You, O LORD, for You have lifted me up, And have not let my enemies rejoice
over me. O LORD my God, I cried to You for help, and You healed me. O LORD, You
have brought up my soul from Sheol; You have kept me alive, that I would not go
down to the pit. Sing praise to the LORD, you His godly ones, and give thanks
to His holy name. Psalm
30:1-4.
David saw God
working in his life—rescuing him and giving him strength. How do you see God
working in your life?
Prayer ~ O Holy Spirit, guide my thoughts, words and
actions today that I would be pleasing to You in all that I do, say, and even
think. It is You, Lord, that I give praise and honor, for just like You were to
David, You are my shield and my strength.
Happy Birthday, Mike.
These 35
years have gone by so quickly!
May God
continue to bless, guide, protect and provide for you—as you seek and serve
Him.
