First Judge Filled with the Spirit

When the sons of Israel cried to the LORD, the LORD raised up a deliverer for the sons of Israel to deliver them, Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb's younger brother. The Spirit of the LORD came upon him, and he judged Israel. When he went out to war, the LORD gave Cushan-rishathaim king of Mesopotamia into his hand, so that he prevailed over Cushan-rishathaim. Judges 3:9-10

Will they ever learn? Those Israelites in the early days were like spoiled little children—they wanted their own way…and when they got into trouble, they called for Daddy! The sons of Israel did what was evil in the sight of the LORD, and forgot the LORD their God and served the Baals and the Asheroth. Judges 3:7  Then in verse 9, they cried out to the Lord—help, save us! So our merciful God saved them by giving them their first judge to rule. That Judge was filled with the Spirit—and God allowed them to win over their enemies. Is that how we are? Do we turn our backs on God when times are good…and then when things get rough—or we do something wrong—do we call out to God to help us? Well—God helped the Israelites. He will help us when we call out to Him.

Prayer ~ Lord, You sent a deliverer—a judge—for Israel. Is that what they need now? Is that what I need now? Give me wisdom to follow You and not turn my back on You or Your way of life. Help me to guide others to know and trust You.
