Where Can I Go?

O LORD, You have searched me and known me. You know when I sit down and when I rise up; You understand my thought from afar. You scrutinize my path and my lying down, and are intimately acquainted with all my ways. Even before there is a word on my tongue, Behold, O LORD, You know it all. You have enclosed me behind and before, and laid Your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; It is too high, I cannot attain to it. Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence? Psalm 139:1-7

God—in the form of the Holy Spirit—knows us well. He knows our thoughts and words—even before we speak them. That is what this Psalm tells us. I’m guessing He knows us better than we know ourselves. Scary thought. But that is balanced out with the comfort that David offers in this Psalm that God goes before and behind us—that is security. His hand is upon us. Where can we go to get away from His Holy Spirit? Do we want to run away from Him—to flee from His presence? Maybe sometimes…but it is better to seek Him, find Him and set things right than to run away. Just knowing that He cares about me, my family, my friends, and well…everyone—is overwhelming. Not that He just cares…He loves us so deeply that He’s intervened in our lives—and Jesus gave His mortal life so that we can spend our eternal life with Him. Where can you go from His Spirit? Why would you want to go away from Him? Think about it.

Prayer ~ Holy Spirit, search us and know us. Guide our hearts, thoughts and words that we would seek You, find You, not run from You, but accept all that You have to offer us—a rich and abundant life.
