Who is God the Holy Spirit?

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was formless and void, and darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was moving over the surface of the waters. Genesis 1:1-2

God the Spirit was there in the beginning. He was always there with God the Father and God the Son. Spirit. In the King James version of the Bible, the Holy Spirit was referred to as the Holy Ghost. In the doxology we sing about the Holy Ghost, as we do in the Gloria Patri. He is the same…Holy Ghost or Holy Spirit. He is part of the triune God—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. He was there in the beginning, moving over the earth—the surface of the water. How much do you know about the Holy Spirit? I’ve really been impressed that I need to learn more about the Holy Spirit—so this year of 2015 I am going to focus on the Holy Spirit in this blog. Is there enough scripture to blog about the Holy Spirit for 365 days?

During 2012 the Banquet With The King focused on scripture verses in the Bible dealing with banquets, eating, or spiritual feasting. This “feasting” revealed that God wants us to be like His Son, Jesus Christ. So in 2013 this blog suggested verses that emphasized the characteristics of Jesus and how we can incorporate those characteristics into the personality of our children or grandchildren using practical activities. As you may have noted, 2014’s blog for Banquet With The King centered around the responsibility we all have to RSVP to Jesus—to respond to the invitation that He gives us every day…to repent, to believe, to follow, to lead, to obey, and among other things to disciple others. This year, 2015, will emphasize the person of the Holy Spirit. Who He is, what He does, and what difference that should make in our lives. I hope that you will at least occasionally join me on this journey of discovery. Dialog with me as we discover more about God—in the form of the Holy Spirit.

Prayer ~ Holy Spirit, come into our lives and hearts and fill us with wisdom, creating knowledge and understanding about Yourself. Help us to apply to our lives all that we learn.
