Providing Instruction – Spiritual Food

You gave Your good Spirit to instruct them, Your manna You did not withhold from their mouth, and You gave them water for their thirst. Nehemiah 9:20

When I started out on this venture to learn more about the Holy Spirit—especially in the Old Testament—I had no idea that the Spirit of God had anointed so many people. They may have only been filled with the Spirit for a short time, but God was certainly using His prophets, priests, kings and others to speak His words—to instruct them—to communicate with the Israelites and with us. All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work. 2 Timothy 3:16-17. This verse reminds me of the Lord’s Prayer…Give us this day our daily bread. Matthew 6:11. Jesus was teaching to ask for daily bread—food—and that can be spiritual as well as physical. God provided manna for the Hebrew people after they left Egypt…and He provided spiritual food as well. He does the same for us…sometimes we just need to ask.

Prayer ~ Holy Spirit, please provide spiritual as well as physical food for me, my family and friends, today. Give us grateful hearts and grace to know that it comes from You and help us be willing to share it generously with others.
