Filled to Serve

Now the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, "See, I have called by name Bezalel, the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah. "I have filled him with the Spirit of God in wisdom, in understanding, in knowledge, and in all kinds of craftsmanship, to make artistic designs for work in gold, in silver, and in bronze, and in the cutting of stones for settings, and in the carving of wood, that he may work in all kinds of craftsmanship.” Exodus 31:1-5

In Old Testament times it appears that men were filled with the Holy Spirit—not at their seeking or desire, but at the will of God. This man Bezalel must have been obedient for the Lord to have gifted him so highly. Later verses tell us that Bezalel was gifted, skilled and respectful of the directions he got from Moses—because everything was just as God had requested. Now Bezalel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah, made all that the LORD had commanded Moses. Exodus 38:22.

So how can we apply this to our lives today? Now we can be filled with the Spirit—and ask for gifts and skills. We only have to pray—to ask. What gifts or skills could you see God using through you to serve others? Do you want the Holy Spirit to fill you with those gifts or skills?

Prayer ~ Holy Spirit, give me wisdom and understanding that I would desire gifts and skills that You can use through me. Help me to see ways that You are already using me and magnify those skills—fill me—to bring glory to God the Father.
