What Did You Learn About God Today?

Prayer – Lord, You are the King of kings, Lord of Lords…and You are my King. I shout for joy at the very thought of this—You seated on Your throne in Heaven. What will heaven be like? I don’t know—but I do know that there are thrones for God the Father and for Jesus Christ—my Lord and Savior. Jesus is seated at the right hand—an honored spot—of God the Father. Your unfailing love fills my mind and my very soul with joy. Thank you.

The LORD is king! He is robed in majesty. Indeed, the LORD is robed in majesty and armed with strength. The world stands firm and cannot be shaken. Your throne, O LORD, has stood from time immemorial. You yourself are from the everlasting past. The floods have risen up, O LORD. The floods have roared like thunder; the floods have lifted their pounding waves. But mightier than the violent raging of the seas, mightier than the breakers on the shore—the LORD above is mightier than these! Your royal laws cannot be changed. Your reign, O LORD, is holy forever and ever. Psalm 93:1-5

O LORD, the God of vengeance, O God of vengeance, let your glorious justice shine forth! Arise, O judge of the earth. Give the proud what they deserve. How long, O LORD? How long will the wicked be allowed to gloat? How long will they speak with arrogance? How long will these evil people boast? They crush your people, LORD, hurting those you claim as your own. They kill widows and foreigners and murder orphans. "The LORD isn't looking," they say, "and besides, the God of Israel doesn't care." Think again, you fools! When will you finally catch on? Is he deaf--the one who made your ears? Is he blind—the one who formed your eyes? He punishes the nations--won't he also punish you? He knows everything—doesn't he also know what you are doing? The LORD knows people's thoughts; he knows they are worthless! Joyful are those you discipline, LORD, those you teach with your instructions. You give them relief from troubled times until a pit is dug to capture the wicked. The LORD will not reject his people; he will not abandon his special possession. Judgment will again be founded on justice, and those with virtuous hearts will pursue it. Who will protect me from the wicked? Who will stand up for me against evildoers? Unless the LORD had helped me, I would soon have settled in the silence of the grave. I cried out, "I am slipping!" but your unfailing love, O LORD, supported me. When doubts filled my mind, your comfort gave me renewed hope and cheer. Can unjust leaders claim that God is on their side—leaders whose decrees permit injustice? They gang up against the righteous and condemn the innocent to death. But the LORD is my fortress; my God is the mighty rock where I hide. God will turn the sins of evil people back on them. He will destroy them for their sins. The LORD our God will destroy them. Psalm 94:1-23

Meditate. Consider God’s unfailing love.

There are several recurring themes about God throughout the Bible. One tells us that God has a tender place in His heart for the widows and orphans and He wants people to care for them.

Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you. James 1:27

Another theme is that God is a mighty rock—giving us a sure and strong foundation. Consider not only this passage today, But the LORD is my fortress; my God is the mighty rock where I hide, but consider the parable Jesus used to illustrate the importance of a strong foundation. His parable was about two men building their homes. One built it on the rock, and the other built his home on the sand. When a storm came, the home built on the rock was secure and did not fall. The home built on the sand collapsed. See Matthew 7:24-27. God is our fortress—a place we find strength and security.

The LORD is my rock, my fortress, and my savior; my God is my rock, in whom I find protection. He is my shield, the power that saves me, and my place of safety. Psalm 18:2

Another theme we see about God in this passage today is that of His unfailing love. Other examples include:

  •      Your unfailing love, O LORD, is as vast as the heavens; your faithfulness reaches beyond the clouds. Your righteousness is like the mighty mountains, your justice like the ocean depths. You care for people and animals alike, O LORD. How precious is your unfailing love, O God! All humanity finds shelter in the shadow of your wings. Psalm 36:5-7
  •           So the Word became human and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen his glory, the glory of the Father's one and only Son. John 1:14

God’s power is another theme that you can explore on your own…your “homework” for the day!

Trust in the Lord. He is powerful, loving, a rock providing a strong foundation in our lives, and compassionate. Who is like the Lord God? His is our Almighty God seated on a throne in His Heavenly Home for now. Watch and see…and be ready for what He has planned. Don’t just read His word, study it so that you will know Him more each day. What did you learn about God today?
