Let All That I am Praise the LORD

Prayer – Lord Jesus, I am on my knees…in my heart, if not literally, praising You. Time is short—and I ant to make the most of it, joyously thanking You for all that You have done…and are going to do. Thanks for a life well lived, obediently honoring our Heavenly Father—and thus the Holy Spirit and Yourself.

The LORD has made the heavens his throne;
from there he rules over everything.

A psalm of David. Let all that I am praise the LORD; with my whole heart, I will praise his holy name. Let all that I am praise the LORD; may I never forget the good things he does for me. He forgives all my sins and heals all my diseases. He redeems me from death and crowns me with love and tender mercies. He fills my life with good things. My youth is renewed like the eagle's! The LORD gives righteousness and justice to all who are treated unfairly. He revealed his character to Moses and his deeds to the people of Israel. The LORD is compassionate and merciful, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love. He will not constantly accuse us, nor remain angry forever. He does not punish us for all our sins; he does not deal harshly with us, as we deserve. For his unfailing love toward those who fear him is as great as the height of the heavens above the earth. He has removed our sins as far from us as the east is from the west. The LORD is like a father to his children, tender and compassionate to those who fear him. For he knows how weak we are; he remembers we are only dust. Our days on earth are like grass; like wildflowers, we bloom and die. The wind blows, and we are gone--as though we had never been here. But the love of the LORD remains forever with those who fear him. His salvation extends to the children's children of those who are faithful to his covenant, of those who obey his commandments! The LORD has made the heavens his throne; from there he rules over everything. Praise the LORD, you angels, you mighty ones who carry out his plans, listening for each of his commands. Yes, praise the LORD, you armies of angels who serve him and do his will! Praise the LORD, everything he has created, everything in all his kingdom. Let all that I am praise the LORD. Psalm 103:1-22

Meditate. Consider God’s unfailing love.

As I read this Psalm once again, I pictured David, on his knees, worshipping the Lord in the Tabernacle—the Tent of Meeting--that he had pitched for God—for the Lord God Almighty—containing only the Ark of the Covenant and the Alter of Incense there in Jerusalem.  David was praising the Lord—remembering the good things that the Lord had done for him. David sought God with all of his heart. Good example for us.

David spoke of his youth being renewed like the eagle’s. There are several verses in the Bible that refer to eagles and even in Daniel, Ezra, and Revelation and eagle is used in describing the heads of cherubim angels in the end times. The verse that is probably most quoted is the one below that gives us a promise that those who trust in the Lord will get new strength, like an eagle—and eagles are very strongest of the birds of prey. Not exactly a bird that you’d want to have as a pet—but that is illegal anyway since eagles are migratory birds and a native species. We can only enjoy them as we see them soaring through the air. There are a couple of pairs of eagles that winter along the Columbia River near my home—so I do search the skies for them frequently hoping to see them gliding about or circling above the river looking for their next meal.

But those who trust in the LORD will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint. Isaiah 40:31

David noted some of the qualities of God: righteous, just, compassionate, merciful, slow to anger, filled with unfailing love, creator, and savior. The list is endless. God is better to us than we ever deserve. Let all that I am praise the LORD.

Verses of Salvation ~ God's purpose was that we Jews who were the first to trust in Christ would bring praise and glory to God. And now you Gentiles have also heard the truth, the Good News that God saves you. And when you believed in Christ, he identified you as his own by giving you the Holy Spirit, whom he promised long ago. The Spirit is God's guarantee that he will give us the inheritance he promised and that he has purchased us to be his own people. He did this so we would praise and glorify him. - Ephesians 1:12-14

Memory Verse of the Week ~ For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16 KJV
