How is Your Heart?

Jesus' words from The Sermon on the Mount...
You have heard the commandment that says, 'You must not commit adultery.' But I say, anyone who even looks at a woman with lust has already committed adultery with her in his heart. So if your eye--even your good eye--causes you to lust, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. And if your hand--even your stronger hand--causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell.  Matthew 5:27-30

Jesus began this teaching directly from the Ten Commandments in the Old Testament.
     - You must not commit adultery. Exodus 20:14
Then Jesus goes beyond the Ten Commandments to the heart of the problem. Another passage speaks to this heart issue.
     - For as he thinks within himself, so he is. He says to you, "Eat and drink!" But his heart is not with you. Proverbs 23:7 (NASB)
People back in Solomon's day when he wrote Proverbs are just like the people today. Those who think evil, do evil...and those who think good things, do good things. To lust...or not to lust? That was the question and anyone lusting...breaking any of the Ten Commandments...was headed for hell. Jesus understood mankind. Don't let your desires of your heart entice you to sin. The heart is the center of the Jewish person's life.
    - Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life. Proverbs 4:23
Jesus knew the Jewish heart...and ours.
How is your heart? Don't throw your life away.

Prayer ~ Lord Jesus...What a great lesson You have taught us. Continue to open my eyes...my heart...to the purity that You require. I praise You.
