Settle Your Differences

Jesus' words from The Sermon on the Mount...
When you are on the way to court with your adversary, settle your differences quickly. Otherwise, your accuser may hand you over to the judge, who will hand you over to an officer, and you will be thrown into prison. And if that happens, you surely won't be free again until you have paid the last penny. Matthew 5:25-26

Jail. Not a place that anyone desires to go. Jesus is giving good advice to those listening to Him. Settle your differences--or you may be headed for prison. This is not directly quoted from any Old Testament passage, although there are a couple of verses that deal with jail or prison.
     - If God  comes and puts a person in prison or calls the court to order, who can stop him? Job 11:10
     - But true wisdom and power are found in God; counsel and understanding are hisWhat he destroys cannot be rebuilt. When he puts someone in prison, there is no escape. Job 12:13-14

I'd say it must have been a pretty serious offense if God Himself puts someone in prison. Job tells us...there is no escape. No escape. Trapped forever behind bars. God is merciful--but you don't want Him as an adversary. Jesus told His followers to settle their differences quickly. Reconcile quickly before you enter the courtroom. Once you are before the judge--prison can be a sentence option. That is a scary place to be. I never have understood just how someone put in jail...or prison...could pay their debt. They aren't working. But even Jesus mentions that they won't be free until every penny is paid. Pay Up! God has the power--He is the ultimate judge.

So each person has a choice...Humble yourself and reconcile with your "adversary" whether it is God or another person...or be selfishly stubborn and maybe head for prison.

Prayer ~ Lord Jesus...Show me if Ihave offended You in any way for my desire is to please You...in all that I think, say and do. No prison time for me.
