Why Did Jesus Come to Earth?

From The Sermon on the Mount...
Don't misunderstand why I have come. I did not come to abolish the law of Moses or the writings of the prophets. No, I came to accomplish their purpose. I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not even the smallest detail of God's law will disappear until its purpose is achieved. So if you ignore the least commandment and teach others to do the same, you will be called the least in the Kingdom of Heaven. But anyone who obeys God's laws and teaches them will be called great in the Kingdom of Heaven. Matthew 5:17-19


Why did Jesus come to earth? From this passage we are told that He came to fulfill the law--to the smallest detail. The Law. The Ten Commandments.
The Old Testament gives us some clues about God's Word...and His promises as He tells us that it accomplishes forever what was planned.
     - The rain and snow come down from the heavens and stay on the ground to water the earth. They cause the grain to grow, producing seed for the farmer and bread for the hungry. It is the same with my word. I send it out, and it always produces fruit. It will accomplish all I want it to, and it will prosper everywhere I send it. Isaiah 55:10-11

   - The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever. Isaiah 40:8
Jesus taught His followers what was written in the Old Testament and encouraged them to obey. Obeying is  the key--and that is everyone's choice. Obey or not.
There is an initial choice--believe. We can't obey without believing.
     - For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16

Why do you think Jesus came to earth?

Prayer ~ Lord Jesus, Thank You for coming to earth and for Your great lesson. The love of God the Father is boundless...and surrounds believers still. It is overwhelming to be part of His plan. I believe...help me to obey.
