The LORD Is There

Meditate. Consider who God is and how much closer you want your relationship with Him to be.

"The distance around the entire city will be 6 miles. And from that day the name of the city will be 'The LORD Is There.'" Ezekiel 48:35

Jerusalem
Yahweh Shammah – Hebrew for The Lord is There. Or it could be Jehovah Shammah since Yahweh, a proper name for LORD, was sometimes translated as Jehovah. In the Strong’s Lexicon both words are applied the same number, definition and usage. At any rate Ezekiel is telling us that God will be there in the millennial kingdom.  Even though Jerusalem has had innumerable battles, constant skirmishes and is even today a divided city, it is a holy and blessed city. God has had his hand on that city and its people for centuries—and it is obvious that He will continue to uphold them in the coming years. The LORD Is There.

This chapter in Ezekiel notes the dividing up of the land around Jerusalem, extending across Israel, and assigning it to the various Israel tribes. It is interesting to note that the land was not divided up the same as at the time of Joshua. Here’s an example of that where Dan was assigned their land first in a portion of an area north of the Temple, in comparison to being last in the earlier assignment.

The seventh allotment of land went to the clans of the tribe of Dan. The land allocated as their homeland included the following towns: Zorah, Eshtaol, Ir-shemesh…. Joshua 19:40-41

"Here is the list of the tribes of Israel and the territory each is to receive. The territory of Dan is in the extreme north. Its boundary line follows the Hethlon road to Lebo-hamath and then runs on to Hazar-enan on the border of Damascus, with Hamath to the north. Dan's territory extends all the way across the land of Israel from east to west. ... "The distance around the entire city (Jerusalem) will be 6 miles. And from that day the name of the city will be 'The LORD Is There.'" Ezekiel 48:1, 35

Why does this make any difference in understanding and knowing God? I think that it is important to see that God has a plan…and it doesn’t necessarily depend on the old ways or what groups did in the past. God’s plan for the future as we can see prophesied about the millennial kingdom in Ezekiel is still focusing on the great city of Jerusalem and His chosen people, the Jews. Even in all their rebellion, He has not given up on them. To me that is encouraging. It gives me hope that as one who has been adopted into God’s family, since I believe in His Son Jesus as my Savior, even in my rebellious time, God has not given up on me either. The LORD Is There. Do you know that the Lord is there for you, too?

Prayer ~ Dear LORD, just as David wrote…I pray…Finally, I confessed all my sins to you and stopped trying to hide my guilt. I said to myself, " I will confess my rebellion to the LORD." And you forgave me! All my guilt is gone. Psalm 32:5 Thank You LORD God for forgiving me.

Verse of Salvation ~ [As prophesied in Isaiah…in that day when the New Jerusalem comes down out of Heaven…Revelation 21:4]

In that day the people will proclaim, "This is our God! We trusted in him, and he saved us! This is the LORD, in whom we trusted. Let us rejoice in the salvation he brings!"  Isaiah 25:9
