Our God is the God Almighty

Focus on God Almighty. Meditate on His bounty.

When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the LORD appeared to him and said, "I am El-Shaddai—'God Almighty.' Serve me faithfully and live a blameless life. I will make a covenant with you, by which I will guarantee to give you countless descendants." Genesis 17:1-2

Once again…who is God to you? What is your relationship with Him? Can you imagine how Abram felt knowing that this was God Almighty that actually appeared to him? The God of all creation.

Abram, later renamed Abraham, was a favorite of God’s. Everyone has “favorites”…like your favorite sweater, or t-shirt, favorite chair, favorite family member or friend, favorite neighbor, favorite food, favorite car, favorite show, favorite time of the year, day of the week, flower, tree…the list goes on. Is there a favorite quality of God that speaks to you? He is a jealous God…and does not want anyone to have any other gods—no other favorites. Yet God has favorites…those are those who live a blameless, holy life of obedience to Him and He blesses them as He did Abraham and his descendants.

And God said to Moses, "I am Yahweh—'the  LORD.' I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob as El-Shaddai—'God   Almighty'—but I did not reveal my name, Yahweh, to them. And I reaffirmed my covenant with them. Under its terms, I promised to give them the land of Canaan, where they were living as foreigners."  Exodus 6:2-4

Of course, we all know people who live…or appear to live…blameless, holy lives who don’t seem to be particularly blessed by God. Maybe their lives would be even worse turmoil without the Lord.  I think those people will receive their blessing later as a reward in heaven. We are told that there will be blessings or rewards in Heaven.

For now…while there is still time...seek the God Almighty … El-Shaddai. He is worthy of our praise.

Prayer ~ Lord I recognize and praise You, for You said…"I am the Alpha and the Omega—the beginning and the end," says the Lord God. "I am the one who is, who always was, and who is still to come—the Almighty One." Revelation 1:8

Verse of Salvation ~ Help us, O God of our salvation! Help us for the glory of your name. Save us and forgive our sins for the honor of your name. Psalm 79:9
