Thankful Relief

Soon afterward Jesus began a tour of the nearby towns and villages, preaching and announcing the Good News about the Kingdom of God. He took his twelve disciples with him, along with some women who had been cured of evil spirits and diseases. Among them were Mary Magdalene, from whom he had cast out seven demons; Joanna, the wife of Chuza, Herod's business manager; Susanna; and many others who were contributing from their own resources to support Jesus and his disciples.  Luke 8:1-3

Another emotion we see in Jesus and ourselves that Cowen and Keltner didn’t specifically address in their study 27 Different Categories of Emotions is that of relief. Relief can be described as respite, release, break, liberation, help, assistance, alleviation and support.

Depicting the five loaves and two fish with which Jesus fed thousands.
Will you support others with loaves and fish?
This scripture is an example of was a physical, monetary and emotional support provided by Jesus’ followers. Of course Jesus could have created anything He needed…or that was needed by His followers, but He instead He relied on the support…the help and assistance of His followers to provide what was needed. That is how it is done here on earth. We don’t take five loaves of bread and two fish and feed thousands. No. We work together—pool our resources and donate funds so that a big group of people can eat. We support one another. When we are recipients of that assistance, like Jesus was, we feel gratitude…towards those who provided the food…and to God, because He is the ultimate source of all things. Although Jesus did create lunch for thousands of people a couple of times, He thanked the Father for that food…and relied on Him to provide enough.

Give Thanks. There are so many good verses on being thankful.
-           -  And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts. For as members of one body you are called to live in peace. And always be thankful. Let the message about Christ, in all its richness, fill your lives. Teach and counsel each other with all the wisdom he gives. Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs to God with thankful hearts. Colossians 3:15-16
-           -  Since we are receiving a Kingdom that is unshakable, let us be thankful and please God by worshiping him with holy fear and awe. Hebrews 12:28
If you were to rate your thankfulness or gratitude for everything you have would it be near 1 (low) or closer to 10 (high)?

Prayer ~ Jesus… For the Kingdom of God is not a matter of what we eat or drink, but of living a life of goodness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. If I serve You, Christ, with this attitude, God will be pleased , and others will approve, too. So then, let us aim for harmony in the church and try to build each other up. Romans 14:17-19. I am thankful in all circumstances, for this is God's will for those who belong to Christ Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 5:18. I praise You and worship You…Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
