Emotion of Horror or Revulsion

It was nearly time for the Jewish Passover celebration, so Jesus went to Jerusalem. In the Temple area he saw merchants selling cattle, sheep, and doves for sacrifices; he also saw dealers at tables exchanging foreign money. Jesus made a whip from some ropes and chased them all out of the Temple. He drove out the sheep and cattle, scattered the money changers' coins over the floor, and turned over their tables. Then, going over to the people who sold doves, he told them, "Get these things out of here. Stop turning my Father's house into a marketplace!" Then his disciples remembered this prophecy from the Scriptures: "Passion for God's house will consume me." ... Because of the miraculous signs Jesus did in Jerusalem at the Passover celebration, many began to trust in him. But Jesus didn't trust them, because he knew human nature. No one needed to tell him what mankind is really like. John 2:13-17; 23-25

Horror – Fear, dismay, revulsion, shock, terror, distress, alarm, panic, dreadfulness, awfulness.
Jesus experienced revulsion towards those money changers in the Temple. It was dreadful what those people thought they could do—defaming the very God that others were coming to worship. No respect. And basically that is how Jesus treated them—no respect. He just drove them out. “Get those things out of here….” Really, I think He was saying to the money changers…Get out…. Get out of My Father’s House. He had to have had a high level of distress to have made a whip and drove not only the sheep and cattle, but the dealers exchanging the money for the Temple coins. In the process tables were turned over—what a mess it must have been!

Love your enemies.
Because of His great and wonderful miracles people began to trust Him. This was even before He raised Lazarus from the dead. But it is recorded here in John 2 that Jesus didn’t trust mankind. He knew what the Jewish leaders were already plotting…and what would ultimately happen to Him. They would continue to provide feeling of dread or revulsion for Him…but He loved them anyway…just like He loves us. Remember He taught that we are to love our enemies. Those Pharisee…and money changers were His enemies. Later He gives us all a wonderful promise…
All who love me will do what I say. My Father will love them, and we will come and make our home with each of them. John 14:23
Are you showing your love to Jesus…by doing what He says?

Prayer ~ Jesus, I love You with all my heart, soul, mind and strength…and as You taught… I love my neighbor as myself. I would hope that You would never feel any revulsion towards me.
