Immediately the Spirit impelled Him to go
out into the wilderness. Mark 1:12
Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned
from the Jordan and was led around by the Spirit in the wilderness for forty
days, being tempted by the devil. And He ate nothing during those days, and
when they had ended, He became hungry. Luke 4:1-2
Jesus’ baptism must have been a totally
high experience as He was recognized by God the Father as His beloved Son and filled
with the Holy Spirit.
Now when all the people were baptized, Jesus
was also baptized, and while He was praying, heaven was opened, and the Holy
Spirit descended upon Him in bodily form like a dove, and a voice came out of
heaven, "You are My beloved Son, in You I am well-pleased." Luke 3:21-22
Then His wilderness experience. Jesus was
led by the Holy Spirit into the wilderness east of the Jordan River. It is
totally a wilderness area—nothing much grows there so there was no food
available to Him. It was just a time for Jesus to spend alone—praying and
contemplating His life ministry ahead. Time alone with God—no distractions
except that the devil was there tempting Him. Have you ever had a wilderness experience?
Time that you thought you’d have alone with God and it turned into a time of
temptation? The Holy Spirit is with each Christian now…just like He was with
Jesus. Where is the Holy Spirit leading you today? Are you trusting Him to lead you?
Prayer
~ Holy Spirit… do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For
Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. Matthew
6:11-13.
