Sow Some Good Seed on Good Soil

Hear then the parable of the sower. When anyone hears the word of the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what has been sown in his heart. This is the one on whom seed was sown beside the road. The one on whom seed was sown on the rocky places, this is the man who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy; yet he has no firm root in himself, but is only temporary, and when affliction or persecution arises because of the word, immediately he falls away. And the one on whom seed was sown among the thorns, this is the man who hears the word, and the worry of the world and the deceitfulness of wealth choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful. And the one on whom seed was sown on the good soil, this is the man who hears the word and understands it; who indeed bears fruit and brings forth, some a hundredfold, some sixty, and some thirty. Matthew 13:18-23

Is the Holy Spirit in this sowing? The person who is like good soil hears God’s word and understands it. Understands it because he is obedient to the Holy Spirit—he listened and obeys. He puts God first and responds with an open heart and mind. He doesn’t allow the world to choke the truth out of his life. He bears fruit…But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things! Galatians 5:22-23 NLT.

What can we learn from this? We should make our hearts, souls, and minds open to God’s word—don’t let worries and dishonesty of the world keep us from being obedient to God. Seek God and ask for understanding of His Word. Let love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness and self-control flow from your life and share with others.

Prayer ~ Holy Spirit, may my heart and soul be like the good soil…and let love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness and self-control flow through my life.
