Discover The Word

So the Levites calmed all the people, saying, "Be still, for the day is holy; do not be grieved." All the people went away to eat, to drink, to send portions and to celebrate a great festival, because they understood the words which had been made known to them. Then on the second day the heads of fathers' households of all the people, the priests and the Levites were gathered to Ezra the scribe that they might gain insight into the words of the law. They found written in the law how the LORD had commanded through Moses that the sons of Israel should live in booths during the feast of the seventh month. Nehemiah 8:11-14

These people—the Israelites just back from captivity in Babylon—were so excited to hear God’s Word. Are you ever excited about reading or hearing God’s Word? I am excited to read this passage again. God’s Word is fresh every morning. The LORD'S lovingkindnesses indeed never cease, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness. "The LORD is my portion," says my soul, "Therefore I have hope in Him." Lamentations 3:22-24. It is encouraging to know that we can have hope in the Lord…that even if we have a time of rejection or abandonment like the Israelites in Babylon, we can come back to the Lord. He is faithful to us…He will never leave us or forsake us—even in Babylon. His Word and love never quits. If you feel that God isn’t with you—who has moved? God never changes. Look at your life, your attitude. I’ve had some times when I felt alone—abandoned by God. It was when my attitude wasn’t good—in fact it stunk. But when I put things right with the Lord—I took up a cross of hope—not despair. God is good. I’ve discovered that in His Word.

Celebrate this Feast of Booths along with the Jews. Find hope. Hope in God’s love and grace.

Prayer ~ Holy Spirit, please continue to renew my hope every day. Remind me that I am a child of God—and that He will never leave me or forsake me (Hebrews 13:5).
