Celebrating and Feasting

The entire assembly of those who had returned from the captivity made booths and lived in them. The sons of Israel had indeed not done so from the days of Joshua the son of Nun to that day. And there was great rejoicing. He read from the book of the law of God daily, from the first day to the last day. And they celebrated the feast seven days, and on the eighth day there was a solemn assembly according to the ordinance. Nehemiah 8:17-18

Have you ever been away from the Lord and then come back? Even with a small backsliding—and then a return to God—to His ways can be a time of rejoicing. Somewhere in my Biblical journey I saw a diagram that shows a circle with arrows. When someone is growing in the Lord—maturing spiritually—they are climbing up. But when they aren’t following God’s ways—walking in His light—then they are going backwards, sliding back. Get right with God again and you’ll be going up His mountain...or the upwards part of the circle. Round and round we go.

The Israelites here were returning to God—to His ways and learning from Nehemiah as he read God’s Word to them during this time of the Feast of Tabernacles. Reading God’s Word was important then—so that they could learn about God and His plan for their lives. The same is for us today. We need to celebrate how God is working in our lives and continue to feast on His Word. Are His Words tasty to you? Let me know what your favorite Bible passage is in the comments section below. Blessings on you as you study His Word.

Prayer ~ Holy Spirit, fill us with a longing for Your Word and give us an understanding beyond what we expect. Thank you for Your love and presence in our lives.

Happy Okinawan Birthday—Lisa Chan.
My daughter was born in Okinawa on October 4th--while it was still October 3rd in the US, so we celebrate her birthday twice--October 3rd and October 4th.
How many kids--or adult kids--get two birthdays?
