Go—Teach

Prayer – Lord, You are the greatest teacher—and I want to honor You. Help me to impart Your wishes—Your plan for people’s lives—to those who would humble themselves to repent of their sins and follow You. Teach me to teach others—encouraging them to follow You in all that they think, say and do.

Jesus came and told his disciples, "I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Matthew 28:18-20

Meditate. What did Jesus command?

The Ten Commandments
Jesus taught people to live by the Ten Commandments. Even in His Sermon on the Mount (see Matthew 5-7) when He spoke to a huge crowd, He focused on applying parts of those directives in a spiritual, not just physical, sense. A couple of the points that He explained were about murder and adultery. To think it is to do it.

"You have heard that our ancestors were told, 'You must not murder. If you commit murder, you are subject to judgment.' But I say, if you are even angry with someone, you are subject to judgment! If you call someone an idiot, you are in danger of being brought before the court. And if you curse someone, you are in danger of the fires of hell.” Matthew 5:21-22

"You have heard the commandment that says, 'You must not commit adultery.' But I say, anyone who even looks at a woman with lust has already committed adultery with her in his heart.” Matthew 5:27-28

As Jesus instructed His disciples to “teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you.” I think that He was summarizing the Ten Commandments into the guidance to love God and others.

"Teacher, which is the most important commandment in the law of Moses?" Jesus replied, "'You must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' The entire law and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments." Matthew 22:36-40

Are you gifted as a teacher? I’ve never been a “teacher” except in Sunday School and Vacation Bible School—and for small projects where I worked over the years, but I’m an encourager. Guiding and encouraging others may be my calling for “teaching” that Jesus commanded. Yes, I can do that. How about you? Of course, you have to know Jesus in order to teach His will for each person’s life. So, seek to know Jesus more, day by day, then follow His directions. Go. Teach.

Verse of Salvation ~ Now all glory to God, who is able to keep you from falling away and will bring you with great joy into his glorious presence without a single fault. All glory to him who alone is God, our Savior through Jesus Christ our Lord. All glory, majesty, power, and authority are his before all time, and in the present, and beyond all time! Amen. Jude 1:24-25
