Prayer – Lord, I am so tired. I’m looking to You for
rest—for my soul and body. I’m trusting You to hear my prayer—however selfish
it may seem. There are a few people depending on me…and I need rest. Thank you.
And God will provide rest for you who are being
persecuted and also for us when the Lord Jesus appears from heaven. He will
come with his mighty angels, in flaming fire, bringing judgment on those who
don't know God and on those who refuse to obey the Good News of our Lord Jesus.
They will be punished with eternal destruction, forever separated from the Lord
and from his glorious power. When he comes on that day, he will receive glory
from his holy people—praise from all who believe. And this includes you, for
you believed what we told you about him. 2 Thessalonians 1:7-10
Sit and Rest. Bench at the Spokane Manito Park Conservatory. |
Are you ever just so tired that you fall asleep just sitting
in your chair…or wherever you are? Hopefully, you are not in your car driving
when you nod off…or standing at your kitchen stove frying something. Safety
first!
Those who are persecuted will find their rest in Heaven.
This means that
God's holy people must endure persecution patiently, obeying his commands and
maintaining their faith in Jesus. And I heard a voice from heaven saying,
"Write this down: Blessed are those who die in the Lord from now on. Yes,
says the Spirit, they are blessed indeed, for they will rest from their hard
work; for their good deeds follow them!" Revelation 14:12-13
Rest is such an important thing—a basic human need. Without
the proper rest, we can’t think straight and reason well. It is essential for
mental and physical health. When we rest our body regains strength and all our
organs renew their strength. Resting helps reduce stress—which is well known to
cause many health issues. God was so wise when He instituted the Sabbath day of
rest. He Himself worked for six days and rested on the seventh day. What a
great example for us. Whether we are still on earth, or in our heavenly home,
we need rest. Jesus called people who need rest to seek Him.
Then Jesus said,
"Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will
give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and
gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to
bear, and the burden I give you is light." Matthew 11:28-30
Rest in Jesus love and grace—here and now and someday in
Heaven where there will not be any sorrow.
Then I saw a new
heaven and a new earth, for the old heaven and the old earth had disappeared.
And the sea was also gone. And I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming
down from God out of heaven like a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. I
heard a loud shout from the throne, saying, "Look, God's home is now among
his people! He will live with them, and they will be his people. God himself
will be with them. He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be
no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone
forever." Revelation 21:1-4
No worries. No sorrow. No pain. Sounds to me like blissful rest. Yes. We will find rest for our very souls with Jesus, our Savior, in Heaven.
Verses of Salvation ~ I want you to understand this
mystery, dear brothers and sisters, so that you will not feel proud about
yourselves. Some of the people of Israel have hard hearts, but this will last
only until the full number of Gentiles comes to Christ. And so all Israel will
be saved. As the Scriptures say, "The one who rescues will come from
Jerusalem, and he will turn Israel away from ungodliness. And this is my
covenant with them, that I will take away their sins." Romans 11:25-27
Friday’s Feast at the King’s Table
Food to end the Feast of Tabernacles. Strudel
is the desert of choice. My husband and his parents made strudel frequently
through the year—not just for special holidays. They made the dough from
scratch with lots of butter and filled that dough with very thinly sliced apples—all
different kinds of apples. They were always good.
Now we use packaged filo dough, but still
slice those apples into paper thin slices. We really don’t even use a recipe—just
spread out a few layers of filo dough, butter it, slice the apples onto the
dough, add a couple handfuls of raisins, or craisins, a spoonful of sugar—if the
apples are not sweet enough, and sprinkle on some bread crumbs and cinnamon. If
there are food issues among the family or friends who will be enjoying this
with you, there may a need to substitute butter with plant-based butter or coconut
oil.
Consider using gluten free bread crumbs
too. Filo dough likely will not be gluten free, so if necessary, substitute a
pie dough made with gluten free flour, rolled paper thin. When you think you’ve
got enough of everything then rollup the dough and seal with a little butter or
just water. Brush the top with some more butter. Bake at 375 degrees F for about
half an hour or until golden brown. Enjoy with friends and family…and a fresh
cup of coffee.
