Is There Joy in Your Relationship With God?

Prayer ~ Oh Lord Jesus, I am glad You have a sense of humor…and laugh. I hope that You are laughing with us…not at us. My health may fail, and my spirit may grow weak, but You remain the strength of my heart; You are mine forever. Those who desert You will perish, for You destroy those who abandon You. But as for me, how good it is to be near You Lord! I chose to have You, the Sovereign LORD, as my shelter, and I will tell everyone about the wonderful things You do. Psalm 73:26-28. May You, LORD, smile on us and be gracious to us. Numbers 6:25.

A time to cry and a time to laugh. A time to grieve and a time to dance. Ecclesiastes 3:4

Meditate. Consider sorrow and joy.

How often have you heard that God has a sense of humor? Think about some of the animal He created…some of the monkeys are pretty funny looking. In the Old Testament we see several verses that talk about the Lord laughing…but it is not in a humorous way. He is laughing at the wicked people—who think they are so smart, but they just don’t see what is really going on in this world.

But the Lord just laughs, for he sees their day of judgment coming. Psalm 37:13

There is a time to cry and a time to laugh…to find some amusement in life, but also to be prepared for your judgment.

Jesus gave some good advice about laughter when you are feeling low—rejected….

What blessings await you when people hate you and exclude you and mock you and curse you as evil because you follow the Son of Man. When that happens, be happy! Yes, leap for joy! For a great reward awaits you in heaven. And remember, their ancestors treated the ancient prophets that same way. Luke 6:22-23

After His resurrection He appeared to the disciples at the Sea of Galilee where they were fishing. They were amazed that He was there. He asked them…

Still they stood there in disbelief, filled with joy and wonder. Then he asked them, "Do you have anything here to eat?" Luke 24:41

Broiled Peter Fish
From the Sea of Galilee, Israel

Jesus was hungry. Have you got something to eat? Funny question. He was probably smiling as He asked them. Of course, they had fish to eat. It was right there on the fire. So, they gave Him some broiled fish. They probably laughed together. I imagine they were overjoyed to see their Lord and Savior again after He was risen from the grave.

Do you ever find laughter and joy in reading God’s word and trusting in Him?

I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 15:13

A time to laugh and a time to cry. When you laugh and cry with friends and family, it draws you into a closer relationship with them. Find joy in reading God’s word and trusting in Him. That will bring you into a closer relationship with the Lord.

Verse of Salvation ~ But may all who search for you be filled with joy and gladness in you. May those who love your salvation repeatedly shout, "God is great!" Psalm 70:4

Memory Verse of the Week ~ Do not be deceived. God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.  Galatians 6:7 NIV

Were you successful in memorizing this verse? Review it again with someone and explain it to them.
