Prayer ~ Lord God, just as You taught the Israelites, You want us to respect our elders. With age comes more responsibility…and then less and less…until the aged are cast-off or set aside. Show me creative ways to honor the elderly I know…and those I don’t know…who are still living. They are worthy of my respect…and it won’t be long until I am there, too. Above all, I love and respect You, Lord, and as You are eternal—ageless—You are worthy of all praise and honor.
Stand up in the presence of the elderly, and show respect for the aged. Fear your God. I am the LORD. Leviticus 19:32
Meditate. At what age is someone “elderly”?
I wanted to focus this year on our relationship—God and me—as
I’m getting older. What does God expect of me…of others…as we age and become “the
elderly” and live to honor Him? How does society view older people and do
they know that God requires people to show respect for the aged? Yes.
That statement was among the laws that the Lord gave to Moses for the
Israelites. Can we live up to that? I’ve mentioned before that I know several
ladies who are or have already turned 96 this year. Amazing ladies. I can only
hope that when I reach their age that I still fear God, that I get around as
well as they do, live in my own home, and have a sense of humor like they do!
Well…that last one remains to be seen in me at my young age. Ha! I respect each
of those ladies…and love them dearly. God has blessed these ladies…and their family
and friends. He is the eternally awesome One! Are you showing respect for God…and
respect for the aged?
Verse of Salvation ~ Look up to the skies above, and gaze down on the earth below. For the skies will disappear like smoke, and the earth will wear out like a piece of clothing. The people of the earth will die like flies, but my salvation lasts forever. My righteous rule will never end! Isaiah 51:6
