Be Blessed

Meditate. Consider the Abrahamic blessing that the Lord gave to Moses.

Then the LORD said to Moses, "Tell Aaron and his sons to bless the people of Israel with this special blessing: 'May the LORD bless you and protect you. May the LORD smile on you and be gracious to you. May the LORD show you his favor and give you his peace.' Whenever Aaron and his sons bless the people of Israel in my name, I myself will bless them." Numbers 6:22-27

The Jewish priests—descendants of Aaron—were the ones with the responsibility to pronounce the Lord’s blessing on His people. Jesus talked about blessing the people He spoke to in the Beatitudes section of His Sermon on the Mount.

God blesses those who are poor and realize their need for him, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs. God blesses those who mourn, for they will be comforted. God blesses those who are humble, for they will inherit the whole earth. God blesses those who hunger and thirst for justice, for they will be satisfied. God blesses those who are merciful, for they will be shown mercy. God blesses those whose hearts are pure, for they will see God. God blesses those who work for peace, for they will be called the children of God. God blesses those who are persecuted for doing right, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs. God blesses you when people mock you and persecute you and lie about you and say all sorts of evil things against you because you are my followers. Be happy about it! Be very glad! For a great reward awaits you in heaven. And remember, the ancient prophets were persecuted in the same way. Matthew 5:3-12

Just as when Aaron and his sons blessed the people of Israel, when God’s people bless each other, then God blesses them. Consider the gracious protection, peace and kindness that the Lord offers those who love Him. Security of the Lord’s protection is so comforting in the changing world that we are all experiencing today.

Be blessed…be happy.
