Can You Endure Suffering?

Meditate. Can you endure suffering for the Lord?

For a time is coming when people will no longer listen to sound and wholesome teaching. They will follow their own desires and will look for teachers who will tell them whatever their itching ears want to hear. They will reject the truth and chase after myths. But you should keep a clear mind in every situation. Don't be afraid of suffering for the Lord. Work at telling others the Good News, and fully carry out the ministry God has given you. 2 Timothy 4:3-5

Can you endure suffering…for the Lord? Persecution? Generally, we live such pampered lives here in the United State that we don’t have much persecution, but we are continually told about Christian around the world facing oppression and enduring horrific atrocities. We can’t imagine watching our loved ones killed right before us…just because we are Christians. It happens. What can we do? Pray. As Paul wrote to Timothy…Don't be afraid of suffering for the Lord. Work at telling others the Good News, and fully carry out the ministry God has given you.

Teach others by example.
Disciple them in your daily life.

What ministry has God given you?

Work at telling others the Good News. Jesus told His disciples that they were to go into all the world and tell others…and make disciples. It is sort of a pet peeve of mine that people become Christians and then they aren’t discipled. How can a person grow without being taught? Well…they must teach themselves and it is often just the Holy Spirit that gives them the encouragement to continually read and memorize scripture. Where would we be without the Holy Spirit? The ministry God has given you might just be to disciple others. Think about that. Where would you start? What would you teach them? Get a plan and give it a try. There are lots of resources on-line. Build your relationship with the Lord as you help others get to know your Lord and Savior as their Lord and Savior.

Prayer ~ Lord…I give great honor to those who endure under suffering, like Job, a man of great endurance. I can see how You, Lord, were kind to him at the end, for You are full of tenderness and mercy. From James 5:11.

Verses of Salvation ~ All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort. He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us. For the more we suffer for Christ, the more God will shower us with his comfort through Christ. Even when we are weighed down with troubles, it is for your comfort and salvation! For when we ourselves are comforted, we will certainly comfort you. Then you can patiently endure the same things we suffer. We are confident that as you share in our sufferings, you will also share in the comfort God gives us. 2 Corinthians 1:3-7

Friday’s Feasting at the King’s Table

We can’t live on bread alone. Will you endure suffering if you add a little orange marmalade jam?

Orange Marmalade Jam
4 cups prepared fruit (buy about 4 medium oranges and 2 medium lemons)
2-1/2 cups water
1/8 tsp. baking soda
1 box SURE-JELL Fruit Pectin
1/2 tsp. butter or margarine
5-1/2 cups sugar, measured into separate bowl

Prepare seven pint sized jelly jars and screw lids by washing and boiling. Heat flat lids with boiling water and keep in hot water until ready to use.

Prepare the fruit by removing the colored part of peel from oranges and lemons using vegetable peeler. Cut the peel into thin slivers and chop into bite-sized lengths if excessively long. Mix the peels, water and baking soda in large saucepan. Bring to boil. Reduce heat to medium-low; cover and simmer 20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add the fruit and juice. Cover and simmer an additional 10 min. Measure exactly 4 cups prepared fruit into a large, 6- or 8-qt. saucepan. Now get ready to stir a lot.

Sprinkle and stir pectin into prepared fruit in saucepan. Add butter to reduce foaming. Bring mixture to full rolling boil (a boil that doesn't stop bubbling when stirred) on high heat, stirring constantly. Stir in sugar. Return to full rolling boil and boil exactly 1 minute, stirring constantly. Remove from heat. Skim off any foam with metal spoon.

Ladle immediately into prepared jars, filling to within 1/4 inch of tops. Wipe jar rims and threads. Cover with two-piece lids. Screw bands tightly. Place jars on elevated rack in a water bath canner. Lower rack into canner. Water must cover jars by 1 to 2 inches; add boiling water, if necessary. Cover; bring water to gentle boil. Process 10 min. Remove jars and place upright on towel to cool completely. After jars cool, check seals by pressing middles of lids with finger. Hopefully, you’ll hear them ping as they seal. If lids spring back, lids are not sealed and refrigeration is necessary.

Enjoy on some fresh homemade bread…or a nice multigrain bread from your favorite bakery or store.
