Tasty Words

Let your speech always be with grace, as though seasoned with salt, so that you will know how you should respond to each person. Colossians 4:6

Speak up giving nice, kind words of response to everyone. What does this have to do with the Holy Spirit? The Holy Spirit will give us words to speak if we don’t know what to say. Amazing. I have experienced that. It often happens when praying—and the Holy Spirit will just put words of comfort, encouragement and joy in my mouth. That gives me joy and renewed hope.

It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing; the words that I have spoken to you are spirit and are life. John 6:63

A gracious woman attains honor…. Proverbs 11:16
One who is gracious to a poor man lends to the LORD, and He will repay him for his good deed. Proverbs 19:17

Seasoned with salt. Have you ever eaten a meal using no salt? It makes for a pretty tasteless meal. Salt adds flavor and essential nutrients that our bodies need—especially the popular block or sea salts. Does salt ever lose its flavor?  Can we lose our “flavor”—our spiritual vitality? Therefore, salt is good; but if even salt has become tasteless, with what will it be seasoned? Luke 14:34.

Prayer ~ Holy Spirit—give me gracious words to say to encourage or enlighten others that they would seek to know or understand more about Jesus. Keep my words “salty” that what I say wouldn’t be tasteless or ordinary—but vibrant and alive as Jesus is.
