Desires

So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won't be doing what your sinful nature craves. The sinful nature wants to do evil, which is just the opposite of what the Spirit wants. And the Spirit gives us desires that are the opposite of what the sinful nature desires. These two forces are constantly fighting each other, so you are not free to carry out your good intentions. Galatians 5:16-17 NLT

Such wisdom. Let the Holy Spirit guide your life. You might be doing whatever you want—but really is it really what you want to do? Our selfish desires may not be worth our time and energy. For me eating that piece of chocolate that I thought I craved is not as satisfying as I imagined—nor is watching yet another movie on Netflix. Time spent reading a novel is not nearly as gratifying as digging into God’s Word and discovering some new truth or application. Here’s a verse I found that gives a good warning. Dear children, keep away from anything that might take God's place in your hearts. 1 John 5:21 NLT. To the point—don’t let anything take God’s place in your heart. Food, entertainment, even selfish desires that may lead to anger, bitterness, envy or jealously. Things and even feelings can so easily become like idols. So beware. Let the Holy Spirit guide you—moment by moment…step by step. How is your walk with Him?

Prayer ~ Holy Spirit, guide each of us today, giving us the desire to live our lives to please and serve You.
