Relationship to Christ

Prayer – Lord Jesus, You are perfect…and I want to grow closer to you day by day. Please give me wisdom, understanding and discernment to know You more.

So we tell others about Christ, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all the wisdom God has given us. We want to present them to God, perfect in their relationship to Christ.  Colossians 1:28

Meditate. Consider your relationship to Jesus Christ.

Paul write about wanting others to be perfect in their relationship to Christ. Can we ever attain that? I would hope so—but I realistically know that only Jesus Christ was the only “perfect” sinless human being—and thus side of heaven—no one…not me or you…can attain perfection.

What does a perfect relationship look like? One in which both people…or all ,the people in the group…consider others more important than ourselves. Jesus already demonstrated this towards us when He obediently went to the cross for our sin. We can obediently strive for the level of obedience that Jesus demonstrated. Additionally, Jesus repeatedly told His disciples and others…including us…to “obey” His commandments.

I have loved you even as the Father has loved me. Remain in my love. When you obey my commandments, you remain in my love, just as I obey my Father’s commandments and remain in his love. I have told you these things so that you will be filled with my joy. Yes, your joy will overflow! This is my commandment: Love each other in the same way I have loved you. There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. You are my friends if you do what I command. John 15:9-14

Jesus Christ chose obediently to come from heaven to earth to serve, teach, build relationships with others, to be a friend, and ultimately to give His life for Hebrews 5:9 (NLT) mankind He had created. There’s the choice set before us today…and everyday. Choose to obey Christ—living in the way that honors Him. Choose today whom you will serve. Will you have a close relationship with Jesus who wants to be your friend?

Verse of Salvation ~ In this way, God qualified him as a perfect High Priest, and he became the source of eternal salvation for all those who obey him. Hebrews 5:9
