How Will You Spend Your Time in Your Old Age?

 Happy Memorial Day!

Prayer – Lord, where does time go? It seems to have slipped away from us. I still feel like I’m in my thirties…well maybe forties! But where has my strength gone? Who are these old people looking back from the mirror at us? Do we have the wisdom that is typically associated with being old?

The glory of the young is their strength; the gray hair of experience is the splendor of the old. Proverbs 20:29

Meditate. Consider age, wisdom, and service—remember.

Memorial Day. A day to recognize the commitment with their very lives that military members have made for our country—the Land of the Free and Home of the Brave. Death. Memorials. Honor. Respect. I remember when my cousin who had died in Vietnam was shipped home and our church was overflowing for his funeral. He was honored for his service and sacrifice—but those who returned alive were often scorned and ignored for their service. Vietnam was an awkward war that few respected.

Today my hubby, an Air Force veteran, turns 81 years young and his blonde hair is beginning to show more white—with a little gray. He is devoted to the Lord, to our grandchildren, and to watching YouTube videos on archeology, survival, and travel.

Now that I am old and gray, do not abandon me, O God. Let me proclaim your power to this new generation, your mighty miracles to all who come after me. Psalm 71:18 (NLT)

As old folks our goal in life should be to tell the younger generations about the Lord. That seems like Jesus’ Great Commission. It is a goal for all  Christians for all time

Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age. Matthew 28:19-20

The choice is ours as to what we do with our time as we get older—and like it or not—we are all getting older. Choosing to serve the Lord is a good use of out time.

Verse of Salvation ~ But may all who search for you be filled with joy and gladness in you. May those who love your salvation repeatedly shout, “God is great!” Psalm 70:4 (NLT)

Happy Birthday to the Old Guy!
