Is There a Light Shining in Your Heart?

Prayer – Lord, You are the light of the world. Inspire and illuminate my life that others would see You in things I say and do.

Satan, who is the god of this world, has blinded the minds those who don’t believe. They are unable to see the glorious light of the Good News. They don’t understand this message about the glory of Christ, who is the exact likeness of God. You see, we don’t go around preaching about ourselves. We preach that Jesus Christ is Lord, and we ourselves are your servants for Jesus’ sake. For God, who said, “Let there be light in the darkness,” has made this light shine in our hearts so we could know the glory of God that is seen in the face of Jesus Christ. We now have this light shining in our hearts, but we ourselves are like fragile clay jars containing this great treasure. This makes it clear that our great power is from God, not from ourselves. 2 Corinthians 4:4-7

Meditate. Consider God’s light.

Jesus taught His followers in His Sermon on the Mount about their value—they are light not darkness.

You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father. Matthew 5:14-16

Jesus was telling His followers that they are the light of the world…just like Him, as He later declares that He is the light of the world.

Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.” John 8:12  (Underlined for emphasis)

This little light of mine/I’m gonna let it shine/This little light of mine/ I’m gonna let it shine/ Let it shine/Let it shine/Let it shine/ Hide it under a basket / No! These are the lyrics to a favorite Christian kids song. Can’t you just see kids singing that and holding up a finger to the sky like a light and covering it like a basket? Kids just do let their light—their love for the Lord—shine. They reflect the joy, love and acceptance that the Lord has for everyone.

Then Jesus called for the children and said to the disciples, “Let the children come to me. Don’t stop them! For the Kingdom of God belongs to those who are like these children. I tell you the truth, anyone who doesn’t receive the Kingdom of God like a child will never enter it.” Luke 18:16-17

Do you choose to seek Jesus everyday like a child…believing that all things are possible with God and that Jesus dearly loves you? Let the light of Jesus shine in and through your heart.

Verse of Salvation ~ The LORD is my light and my salvation—so why should I be afraid? The LORD is my fortress, protecting me from danger, so why should I tremble? Psalm 27:1
