Will God Supply All Your Needs?

Prayer ~ Lord—there are so many people with needs greater than mine…and You have so generously provided so much for me…food at least three times a day, clothes, a wonderful home, car, loving family and friends, so many great books to read, entertainment, and a bike and kayak that provide me with exercise opportunities. Life is good. My heart is broken for those who are homeless—even if it is by their choice—and for those who live in war zones or are persecuted Christians. I know You love all those other people just as much as You love me…For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him will not perish, but have everlasting life. (John 3:16) You love the world and in that love, I trust that You will meet their needs.

But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19 KJV

Meditate. What do you need? Where does it come from?

Market in Jerusalem
Fresh fruits, vegetables, and rolls.
What do you really need…I mean REALLY NEED? Not the I wanna have this or that…but what do you need for life to go on? We all need at least eight glasses of water, several servings of fruits and vegetables, and some grains and/or meat servings. We don’t need sweets or processed foods. We need clothes and shelter—although those can be basic, most people want comfort and style. God doesn’t care about fancy things when it gets in the way of people’s obedience. Consider the relationship between the Hebrew people and God when they were headed for the Promised Land.

For the LORD had told Moses to tell them, "You are a stubborn and rebellious people. If I were to travel with you for even a moment, I would destroy you. Remove your jewelry and fine clothes while I decide what to do with you." So from the time they left Mount Sinai, the Israelites wore no more jewelry or fine clothes. Exodus 33:5-6

No more fancy clothes and jewelry for them. What about you?

The things we need will be supplied by God—by Jesus Christ—according to His riches in glory. God is the creator of everything—He has all the riches. If you need something…ask God…but He already knows what you need. If it is something in God’s will…something that is by His plan, you can count on it, when you make your request in Jesus’ name. Yet how many prayers go unanswered…or receive a NO? We can only expect God to answer and trust that He will provide.

When you pray, don't babble on and on as people of other religions do. They think their prayers are answered merely by repeating their words again and again. Don't be like them, for your Father knows exactly what you need even before you ask him! Matthew 6:7-8

At that time (Jesus foretelling of His death and resurrection) you won't need to ask me for anything. I tell you the truth, you will ask the Father directly, and he will grant your request because you use my name. You haven't done this before. Ask, using my name, and you will receive, and you will have abundant joy. John 16:23-24

One of my favorite verses and songs comes from Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount where Jesus talks about asking, seeking, and knocking.

Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened. Matthew 7:7-8

Will those actions provide your needs? Will God supply all your needs?

Verses of Salvation ~ And we believers also groan, even though we have the Holy Spirit within us as a foretaste of future glory, for we long for our bodies to be released from sin and suffering. We, too, wait with eager hope for the day when God will give us our full rights as his adopted children, including the new bodies he has promised us. We were given this hope when we were saved. (If we already have something, we don't need to hope for it. But if we look forward to something we don't yet have, we must wait patiently and confidently.) Romans 8:23-25
