Prayer ~ Lord, I recognize that one of the great Ten Commandments deals with coveting.
"You must not
covet your neighbor's house. You must not covet your neighbor's wife, male or
female servant, ox or donkey, or anything else that belongs to your
neighbor." Exodus 20:17
You have a plan for purity—and that includes not
coveting. Thank you for providing for our needs, as well as for the guidance and teaching that we can live holy lives before You.
I have never coveted anyone's silver or gold or fine
clothes. You know that these hands of mine have worked to supply my own needs
and even the needs of those who were with me. Acts 20:33-34
Meditate. What does it mean to “covet”?
Paul made the statement in this passage of Acts when he was
teaching at the church at Ephesus. Although he wrote about taking care of his
own needs, God supplied his needs—and ours—so there is no need to covet. Well—we
can be content with what we have--and not covet.
And this same God
who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which
have been given to us in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19
How is your relationship with our God who is all-powerful
and will provide for all your needs?
Verses of Salvation and Hope ~ For all creation is
waiting eagerly for that future day when God will reveal who his children
really are. Against its will, all creation was subjected to God's curse. But
with eager hope, the creation looks forward to the day when it will join God's
children in glorious freedom from death and decay. For we know that all creation
has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time.
And we believers also groan, even though we have the Holy Spirit within us as a
foretaste of future glory, for we long for our bodies to be released from sin
and suffering. We, too, wait with eager hope for the day when God will give us
our full rights as his adopted children, including the new bodies he has
promised us. We were given this hope when we were saved. (If we already have
something, we don't need to hope for it. But if we look forward to something we
don't yet have, we must wait patiently and confidently.) Romans 8:19-25
