Is There a Temple for God in Your Heart?

Prayer ~ Lord, find within me a Temple—created by You, for You.

So Paul, standing before the council, addressed them as follows: "Men of Athens, I notice that you are very religious in every way, for as I was walking along I saw your many shrines. And one of your altars had this inscription on it: 'To an Unknown God.' This God, whom you worship without knowing, is the one I'm telling you about. He is the God who made the world and everything in it. Since he is Lord of heaven and earth, he doesn't live in man-made temples, and human hands can't serve his needs—for he has no needs. He himself gives life and breath to everything, and he satisfies every need. From one man he created all the nations throughout the whole earth. He decided beforehand when they should rise and fall, and he determined their boundaries. His purpose was for the nations to seek after God and perhaps feel their way toward him and find him—though he is not far from any one of us”. Acts 17:22-2

Meditate. What does a Temple look like in your heart?

Just as Paul was telling the people in Athens, our God may be unknown to them…but He is not unknown to the world, to us. He himself gives life and breath to everything, and he satisfies every need. He created everything and is so powerful, yet loving and caring—taking care of all the physical and spiritual needs. Just ask Him.

Create in me a clean heart.
Like the purity of this rose.

Anywhere that God is, has to be pure—undefiled—holy. Create in me a clean heart.

Purify me from my sins, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow. Oh, give me back my joy again; you have broken me--now let me rejoice. Don't keep looking at my sins. Remove the stain of my guilt. Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a loyal spirit within me. Do not banish me from your presence, and don't take your Holy Spirit from me. Psalm 51:7-11

I like that idea—the statement or promise—that God is not far from any one of us. He is close at hand—or close to our heart if we will just seek Him…and let Him into our life. Seek Him and you will find Him is a promise that is repeated in several places in the Bible. Try it for yourself. Create a clean heart and home for Him and become the Temple that He wants—right there within you. Is there a Temple for God in your heart?
