Meditate.
So the disciples did as Jesus told them and prepared the Passover meal
there. When it was evening, Jesus sat down at the table with the twelve
disciples. ... As they were eating, Jesus took some bread and blessed it.
Then he broke it in pieces and gave it to the disciples, saying, "Take
this and eat it, for this is my body." And he took a cup of wine and gave
thanks to God for it. He gave it to them and said, "Each of you drink
from it, for this is my blood, which confirms the covenant between God and his
people. It is poured out as a sacrifice to forgive the sins of many. Mark my
words--I will not drink wine again until the day I drink it new with you in my
Father's Kingdom." Matthew 26:19-20, 26-29 (Underlined for
emphasis.)
Drama portrayal of the Passover Meal. Jesus blessing the Bread. |
There is Jesus blessing the bread again. This is a special meal…not
feeding 5,000—just His disciples and maybe a few followers. The Bible doesn’t
really record the exact people who were there…just noted that the disciples
were at this Passover meal with Jesus. They all had experienced Passover many
times where they had the traditional meal with bread and wine. Blessed food.
This time was different. Jesus said that the bread represented His body…given
for them. And the wine, represented His blood given in sacrifice for them. He
was telling them He was the sacrificial lamb for that Passover, for all
Passovers. There would never have to be another sacrificial lamb…but only Jesus
knew that right then. He blessed the bread and thanked God for the wine. His
body and blood.
Are you thankful?
Prayer ~ Lord, Let the message
about You, Christ, in all its richness, fill our lives. May we teach and
counsel each other with all the wisdom You give. May we sing psalms and hymns
and spiritual songs to You with thankful hearts. From Colossians 3:16.
Verse of Salvation ~ As for
us, we can't help but thank God for you, dear brothers and sisters loved by the
Lord. We are always thankful that God chose you to be among the first to
experience salvation—a salvation that came through the Spirit who makes you
holy and through your belief in the truth. 2 Thessalonians 2:13
I’m thankful that God chose you…and you chose
to accept His gift of salvation!
